Let's give this a try. The sun was very bright causing some harsh shadows. I've made a few post process adjustments to try and make it more interesting, what do you think?

Thanks,

Dan

Let's try this version:

This one made me smile, but I would like to see a bit more focus overall.

Just curious ... is the image displaying at 640x420? That is the native size, but for some reason my browsers are showing it scaled up to 1105x725 which makes it look fuzzy. Does anyone know why that's happening? The image is being hosted on Flickr.

I;m not sure either. I just copied your link and posted in this thread, and it indeed scaled up. too bad, the original size is nice and sharp!

Not sure why you're having the Flickr problem...

My thought on the picture though (which may be unfair, given the Flickr problem), is it looks a tad too "shadow recovered"...is it just my eyes or is that what is happening? Your sports stuff on your website look pretty good, btw

I like the colours and the writing suites the WA well.

About the size, just upload it normally to this site rather than link it.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

Great subject for the theme, although I'd like to see a little more of the bottom of the building to "anchor" the bottom of the frame. I also somewhat agree with the tad too"shadow recovered" look. I don't mind it on the building itself, but think you could have masked off and reduced the effect to the treed hillside background, perhaps.

The version showing now is linked to my Roadrunner account, same picture, but for some reason it's not upscaling it any longer.

Waveslide,

You're probably right on the shadow recovery, I made quite a few adjustments to try and balance the difference between the shadows and the highlights on the tin roof.

Thanks for your comments on my sports pictures, that's where most of my experience has been. Now that my last kid is graduating from high school this year, I need to expand my photography to other areas too.

Yakim,

I tried to pump the colors without making it looking cartoonish. When I saw this WA I immediately thought of this barn which is about two miles away from me.

Thanks for the comments.

Dajavu,

I started including the bottom of the building but part of a new pick up truck would show ... and that just distracted from the picture. Maybe with the new smart fill option in CS5 I could just make the truck disappear.

Thanks for your comments,

Dan

I wonder if b/w may be the better choice here then? I'd at least be curious to see it that way. Anyhow...sorry not trying to pick too much...more curiosity than critique.

Looks like a fun place. Not easy to shoot under those conditions. The background (trees) would benefit some some darkening. The rest looks good.

Oh, I somehow missed this one or it would have gotten my vote immediately.
I'm not sure what you did in post processing but I would have liked to see the roof selectively less exposed. B&W would have wasted the nice colors you have there.

Anyway, most assignments here (recently at least) call for studio/staged scenes for which I don't have the patience/gear/skill and which I generally don't especially enjoy doing or seeing. So it's nice to see some outdoor stuff. The "dessert" week is going to be painful.
