p.2 #1 · p.2 #1 · Couple questions about Zeiss

I am lusting over the 100 MP, and was positive I'd pick up a ZE when the time was right, but now I'm considering the ZF first version. I can't tell any difference in IQ and I've discovered I really like having a manual aperture ring. Something you might want to consider, since a used ZF will save you a few hundred, even with a decent adapter.

IndyFab, you are out of luck with the 21 ZE, because the Contax version is essentially the same price, around 1500$ (or was at least, the last time I looked).
You could buy a very good wide angle, though not as good as the 21, in the 28mm f:2.8, either in ZE form, or, much cheaper, in Contax version.
There are 100mm Contax alternatives, such as the superlative 100mm f:2.0, but they are not easy to find (none right now at KEH or Adorama)
But you could get a very good and very cheap 50mm Planar f:1.7 for less than $200, plus adapter.

Philber,
Thank you so much, Thats exactally the kind of info I was looking for.
Great perspective on the 50 , as to having the macro abillitiess in the 100

Quick question since you bummped me upto the 28, from the 21 , should I consider the 35

I do presently own a Tokina 11 16 , but considered selling it if i got a WA Zeiss for its color rendidtion.. Rome wasnt buit in 1 day, so I can always get the WA later on . As the tokina will keep me in the WA for awhile.

In that case which would be better 28 or 35 and what 35

In my experience, the Contax Carl Zeiss Distagon 28/2.8 is fantastic. It's a great bargain, considering it's high IQ. The Distagon 35/2.8 is also very nice, but not as good in the corners as my Mamiya M645 35/3.5N, which I use with a Mirex Tilt-Shift adapter. I sold the Distagon 35/2.8 and recently picked up a Leica Summicron-R 35/2, which is very different in character than the Zeiss. At 35mm, I'm very happy using the M645 and Leica 35mm lenses. At 28mm, I'll stick with the Distagon.

ZE 35/2 is a fabulous lens and less expensive than some of the others--think it runs about $1,000 and with a Bing discount, can bet had for about $920 net, I believe.
