This lens has recently come to my attention. Does anybody here have any experience, samples or knowledge of it?

Looks like an interesting affordable 180mm option..

Tiny, light weight, good but not exceptional optical performance, smooth bokeh, flares readily.

How "good" is good??

Is it better than Nikon ais, Canon L, or Zuiko OM in the 180/4 or 200/4 flavors??

Which is better? ...the Elmar 180/4 or the Elmarit 180/2.8 pre-APO (2nd version w/ no tripod mount that's supposedly better than the 1st version)?

I don't have enough experience with the late non-APO 180 Elmarit-R to make any statements about it. My impression of the 180 Elmar (w/o pixel-peeping or measurebating) is that it's pretty comparable to the 200mm f/4 Nikkor The 180mm f/2.8 Nikkor*ED AIS is quite a good lens IMHO. You'd have to go to an APO in the Leica lineup to do better than the Nikkor*ED AIS.
