I decided that my previous post might be a little too dark a subject for this theme, even though my intent was to portray a less common perception of feminine qualities. I’ve reposted in the B & W forum to get feedback on the composition and technique.

The one that replaces it here is a little more traditionally feminine. My wife uses these to practice new hair cutting techniques before she uses them on real hair.

Thank you. I honestly didn’t know how this was going to go over considering the theme, but my wife actually suggested going a different direction to convey a stronger sense of femininity....

I wish I could see why the original pic was so praised but I'll be content in the current one, which is lovely as well.

Thanks Chris. I guess these doll heads now serve a dual role, one for practicing hairs styles, and now for pratacing lighting techniques!

The soft lighting really adds to the feminine feel of the shot. The saturated makeup and hair flower really top it off. Good idea.

Thanks Mark and Barbara. I had to take several practice shots and ended up bouncing the flash off a piece of white foam core board, and I had a clamp lamp pointing down at the hair with a snoot made from wrapping foil around the lamp. It was fun figuring it all out.
