I asked a similar question a couple of threads down but thought it better to start a fresh.

I want to try out a Zeiss Jena 35mm f2.4 Flektogon (m42) on my 1d3.
Which adapter is best suited for this?

Phil-

I picked up an adaptor from Kong Kong on ebay that includes a focus confirmation chip (more effective than I expected). I have a stable of M42 lenses and any basic adaptor works quite well.

Cheers,
Chris

I've found Rayqual adapters to be the "best" in terms of quality. I have a couple happypagehk adapters (C/Y to EOS, Leica R to EOS), and these are much better, even at twice the cost. They don't flex, have a smooth/tight fit, and the hardware bits such as levers/pins are nice and strong. I got mine straight from Japan through japanexposures.com. They look similar to the cameraquest/kindai adapters, but I haven't tried those.

Thanks drhee39,
I had a look at japanexposures.com, an interesting site but couldn't see an m42 to Canon adapter.
Will have a look for the happypagehk adapters.
Thanks again.
Phil

Just got an email back from happypagehk and they (Rudolph) don't sell m42 to Canon adapters.

If you email Dirk Rosler at japanexposures, he can get it for you even if it's not listed. I got mine from there. A very nice guy, btw.

Anyone knows if any of these M42-EOS adapters will return the lens nicely to center after being mounted on camera.

I have this Tagotech adapter that does not. While does not affect anything but I am just being picky.

Here's a CZJ 135 Sonnar mounted on my adapter:

Looks like maybe the threads are not precise on your adapter.

I have my Planar 85 converted to M42 mount. The one selling me the adapter says it is the mount, The one selling the mount says it is the adapter. Anyway, I am thinking of getting a Kindai/Rayquel adapter. If the best of the lot can't return my lens to center , then it has to be the mount. However, they are out of stock at the moment and have to wait till April.

When you manage to get a Raquel adapter please post a reply in this thread to say if it worked just as you hoped it would, or not as the case may be.
Thanks.

M42 is just about the least demanding adapter. They will all work as long as thickness is correct. I doubt there would be any advantage to a screwed 2-piece type like the Photodiox Pro.

I just got 2 of these and HIGHLY recommend them:

They are very solid aluminum, infinity was dead-on on both lenses, and I REALLY like this particular chip. - You can program ANY FL (unlike most chips) and it has focus-range fine-tuning.

It does NOT have that pesky "auto-fire" feature of the other popular chip. I bloody hate that, always missing shots when the camera won't fire at all. I ripped those chips off my other adapters and tossed them.
