Spent part of the night freezing on an outdoor shot for this assignment. That shot didn't quite make it.
However, after work the other night I took some photos of a Valentine's leftover. Amongst those shots I found one I liked a lot.
So here it is. I processed it a bit to punch up the art quality. I'm doing less and less "realistic" photos as I develop my business. I'm realizing that the best part of this new digital photo tech is the ability to give the world better than real.
Shot @ 1/4 sec using a single mini-Mag lite from above. Simple. The rose was peach colored so the highlights appear yellowish and the shadows more reddish.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.
Yeah, I entered into this grand world of digital a few years back. Coming from 35mm in my youth I took the "real is best" approach to my work and strived to make the photos look as authentic as I could.
Now that I'm making some decent money doing this photo thing, I realize that real often isn't better. Most people, myself included, want something remarkable/memorable. Photoshop is simply another tool used to help accomplish that goal.
Really nice entry. Honestly, it really does not speak "curves" to me, but I do like the shot a lot.
Boy, a couple of attempts of wet clothes in the shower, now half a night outside in the cold... there is certainly some out of the box thinking goin' on upstairs, kudos.
This only goes for me personally, but I like this one better. The combination of lights and darks, and colors really makes it. Not to mention the long exposure really blows away that 30 MPH speed limit...
Best Regards,
Kurt
