Here's a shot of the setup:
Took about 150 takes to get the lighting and water form just right, narrowed it down to 5, and the wife picked this one.
D300 + 105 2.8D, ISO 200, 1/250th, F14, yellow gelled 600 at 1/4, blue gelled 900 at 1/2, with barn doors on both to cut the spill.
What I was trying to accomplish was a clear separation of lighting, for instance the yellow stream against a blue background less than 3 inches behind the subject, in addition to catching just the right water form.
One of the interesting things I [re]discovered was that the edges of the waterform catch light very well...enough so that you can make them out as clear lines which I felt adds a strong compositional element.
The biggest challenge I had was matching flash duration to ambient exposure (which too much of manifests as blur)...I couldn't drop enough light out of the scene to get that 1/6600 speed of the flash at 1/250, and after 150 tries, I'd decided to let it go for another day.
Oh and yes - everything got very wet during this
