I would imagine it's the same as the 7D, +/- 3 stops EC for PASM modes and up to +/- 5 stops in AEB.
No -/+ 7EV in AEB mode. Standard exposure allows -/+ 5EV and AEB allows another -/+ 2EV on top of this. The 7D allows up to -/+ 8 EV in AEB shooting.
I like that the new LCD is finally 3:2 so res is now 720 x 480 as opposed to 640 x 480.
They've upped the frame rate a bit, but couldn't they have actually made it 4fps rather than 3.7fps? But the buffer is smaller, 6 vs 9 RAW (500D), 37 vs 170 jpg (500D).
Awesome specs for Rebel, but still I wouldn't buy one, as the grip is too small and of the small cameras I've handled the Rebel is the worst to hold. I haven't got big fingers either. The way I could use it, is with a grip, which kind of defeats the purpose of having a small camera in the first place.
This camera will sell up a storm and it'll cause problems for the competition.
Maybe the 550D is a 7D in a 500er body, and one of the "dual" DIGIC IV processors is disabled.
There is no reason for a 60 D between the 550 D and the 7 D
900,- $ for 550 D, 1.200$ for 7D
maybe a 1.050 $ one with not 19 autofocus points, but 12 points
and also only one DIGIC IV processor, but in a biger body
or a DUAL DIGIC IV, but only 5 or 6 frames per second
I think, how think's about a XX instead of a XXX number, will also pay the
difference from ~ 150 $ between a XX and a 7D
7 D needs a new firmware upgrade for faster video or bigger vide than Full HD.
the 7D has the best hardware. It must be possible to have also 60 frames at Full HD
with 2 DIGIC IV.
A preliminary price is up at Amazon.com already, $800 US for Body, $900 for 18-55mm kit. Also, reading a short review at dpreview.com showed that it "should" produce sharper pictures. dpreview I'm not sure what to think yet, those video and sensor enhancements do look very enticing. It is true, I am very happy with my T1i right now and looking at the cost, it would be about $2-300 jump. Probably not worth it for me. I'd rather save that money for a nice flash or lens.

Any chance iso 6400 will be useable?
It's not going to be any better than the 7D if you're wondering. Those are usable depending on who you ask.

Ummm...except for the small 'fact' that the 7D doesn't sell for $1,200. Don't get me wrong, $1,200 sounds great to me...in fact $800 sounds even better but that's not the reality.

That's what I was going to say. Let's go further and say there's no need for a 7D either because in my universe the 1D IV is $1700
A 60D is clearly needed within the current pricing structure. Canon won't have any answer to the D90 replacement. The 7D fights against the D300s.
If it sells, Canon will make it. Heck...i am willing to bet that if "it sells" Canon will continue to produce 450D,500D,550D 50D,60D and 7D. A whole 6x pack of crop cameras... !!!
Do you really still think that Canon makes "logic" and "well layed out" line ups

Agreed. I don't need the AF of the 7D and I'm not willing to spend $1500 for it. However, an XXD body with some of the features of the 7D would be a nice replacement for my 40D.
Feel kind of ripped that canon never released a firmware update for manual video control for the 500D even though it's a rebel it still costs a fair penny...
it's got video features the 7D nor the 5D II have. Crazy Canon. I'm done buying bodies for a while. The 7D has everything I could need for a long time. With diminishing returns on the megapixel increase and me sick of buying/installing new hard drives, I think I'm ok. 10MP files from the 7D look great.

To be fair, none of the competitors that cost as much as the T1i have manual controls either. Anyways, thanks to the large market share of Canon, here's to hoping for 3rd party firmware, maybe ala CHDK or Magic Lantern.

Not sure why you feel so ripped. You bought a product that advertised exactly what it provided. No reason for them to include all the video features of the 7D or T2i (which comes 12 months later) at the lower price. You got what you paid for, so there should be no sense of entitlement to some sort of firmware update (if the hardware is even there).

Maybe, but there should be some sort of happy medium. How about if they offered the video firmware "update" for say $100? That would make a lot more sense than buying a new camera for a single feature.

No idea mate, I guess it also depends on how much you paid for the 500D.
Where's the pic for the new RC-6 remote? I just bought RC-1 last friday and I haven't opened the box yet. If the RC-6 is better, I think I'll return the RC-1 for it since they say it works for 450D (which I have) and 7D (which I'll get next month).
edit: nvm, I saw it in the hands on preview. It's flat and wide... I'll just keep using the RC-1 which is slim enough to be carried with the strap.
Michael49 - Yeah but then you're only about $100 away from the full 1080p, external mic, 18mp, etc, etc, in which case most people would probably opt for. If you're willing to pay $100 for the manual controls, you would probably be happy with paying a little more for everything else. Canon's pretty smart with their pricing, a little bit of everything to get at each market (or value) segment.

But then you wouldn't have to spend significantly more for another camera...IOW its bad business for Canon
