UPDATE - I wanted to write (ZE) lenses and not this specific lens. Thanks for pointing out Philber.

as per request of many...and it does make sense as all these lenses are almost the same.

Since there are many experienced Zeiss clssic lens owners participating in this thread: I recently got a used copy of the Zeiss Zf.2 makro planar 100mm f2. Glass and appearance are still excellent, but there is around 1mm of backlash in the focus ring, meaning that when I change focussing direction, there is a loose mm before focussing action engages again.
I have several other Zeiss lenses and have not seen this before.
Is there someone skilled or knowledgeable enough to help me determine whether I should return the lens, or alternatively: have it serviced at Zeiss in Oberkochen Germany, I have no idea at all of the possible cost.
The loose mm makes it harder to swiftly focus at f2 (on the Sony A7r). Also, it may get progressively worse, like a screw showing increasing play once the fix is lost?

Don't even bother... sell or return it.

I got 2/100 Makro planar brand new from B&H... IT'S PERFECT - no loose stuff, no dusts, no loose screws, no dings, even the plastic wrapper is perfect, not man-handled from the store, I am one user who is really picky

about buying things... and I know Zeiss do their very best to come with a quality product.. but even then I

always test it within two weeks of acquiring it.... if something is wrong or feel that isn't right, I will exchange it

fast.

So for you... I'd rather give it up.. get a new one. What's the enjoyment of having a manual lens that is loose

every time you rotate the focusing ring? it supposed to be smooth, firm and no creep

Trying to decide between ZE and Contax C/Y lenses. Took the ZE 35/2 out this morning, and think I'm going to add the ZE 21... It doesn't make a better photo, but it is nice to have Exif as well...
