Anybody going this year?

I'll be there one afternoon for practice and then on game day representing our small newspaper. It will be my first time covering something bigger than HS sports, so any tips would be appreciated.

i won't be going, but i've shot there a few times. ISO 2500 2.8 @800 is good.

If my passport renewal isn't back by midweek I'll be there. The only non-standard issues I can think of:

1) practices last year weren't very productive since only the contracted photog could shoot outside of one corner of the field (endzone plus about 25 yds)

2) make sure there's a parking pass in your package...because Ladd's in a horrible area, and you'll likely get stuck parking in someone's front yard and carting your gear through the ghetto.

If you've got any specific Qs PM me

eta: I think they changed it back to a day game this year, so lens selection shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Tony, this years game starts @ 3pm as John stated so we should have a bit more light to work with.

John, thanks for the heads up on shooting locations and parking. It looks like the arrangement is the same for shooting practices this year, although it doesn't look like I'll be able to make a practice this week.

I'll be shooting with a 300 2.8 + 1.4x for my long glass and a 70-200 2.8 and 24-70 2.8 on my other bodies.

I'll be there but shooting from the stands. No press pass for me. Is there any restrictions on camera or size of lenses. I couldn't find any on either Senior Bowl or Ladd-Peebles Stadium web sites.

I wouldn't think you'd have any problems within reason, as the majority of the week is spectator oriented, and the game itself is intended to garner as much interest and attention for players that aren't a lock for the next level . Now if you show up with a lens you just stole from the Mobile Planetarium...

Leo-

May I ask what body you are using with the 300 + 1.4 combo? 1.6 crop or 1D? The reason I ask, is I'm hoping a 300 is going to be long enough on a 7D for me when I start shooting some semi-pro football in late spring.

Thanks,

Rick

Rick, I've got it mounted on a 7D, but it will be the first time I'm shooting with this combo. I normally shoot with my Sigma 120-300 2.8 on the 7D but was able to rent the Canon 300 2.8 IS for this event. The reach on my 7D/120-300 combo is normally sufficient for HS sports, but the actual focal length of the Sigma is around 280mm. I'll try to give some feedback after shooting with it on Saturday.

I shoot the Sigma 120-300 on my 50D, and for daytime games will use the 1.4X It's fantastic!

Thanks for the input Rob, I'm hoping to do a bit of shooting with both coupled to the 1.4x for comparison sake. I know that my bank account will probably regret renting the 300 2.8 IS, but that's a chance I'm willing to take!

Have not had a chance to do side by side comparisons between the Canon and Sigma, but the Canon seems to lock focus a tad quicker and needs less PP in LR to get it to where I want it. It performed better than the photographer at the game.

You can see pics from the game HERE
