Didn't have much veggies on hand, the only other veggies were carrots and cucumbers, which were not too veggie like IMO.



C&C would be much appreciated.

Superb shot. Above and beyond the "regular" veggie shots as it actually says something. A top contender without a doubt.

I love the concept, composition and subjects, but something about the way it's shot seems a bit flat and washed out--too much of the same gray tones. I know it's high key, but for me it's lacking some tonal contrast. I like images with good contrast (darker darks)... but I know everyone's taste varies!! I do think the fingers are too close to the bottom edge; a different crop (less on top, more on bottom) would be ideal. You have a great image in the making, and with a little adjustments it could be even better, imho.

I had a hard time processing this shot. I wanted to do a B&W shot. The contrast was intentionally lowered. I felt that with the original contrast, the hands has a much darker tone than everything else, and thus taking too much attention IMO. And it's also the reason that I kept the hands closer to the edge. However with the contrast lowered, I find the subject disappearing into the background, and as you said lacking in tonality. However I settled with the current form as I find here is something unique about it, the whole thing look like they are made of plaster.

I think I'll work on The B&W conversion more when I get home, will probably post a few other versions and framing that I have taken too.

I like the color version. The gentle coloration gives some depth and contrast that the B&Ws are lacking. The color version also showcases the hands as supporting the cabbage. The green in the cabbage helps to preserve it as the focal point.

I'm obviously in a minority here, so take our comments for what they are worth.

I think I am leaning towards the 2nd B/W version, however there is still a mysterious quality in the first one that is pulling me back towards the original. Nice shot.

Thanks guys for you inputs and kind words.

I agree with Chris that the green colour easily led the the viewer to the subject. And I also think it looks for fresh and lively, whereas the second black and white version looks flatter.

I also agree with Kurt. While the 2 later versions are technically more "correct", there is a certain quality to the original version that gives it a special feel, that I can't quite put it in words. It's kind of like I use my heart to make the first one and use my head to make the second ones.

However I also agree with the rest that the second black and white version has a correctness to it. In some way I find the colour version a little snapshot like and feels something is missing at the top part of the frame.

Ok I shall stop my rambling and go back to Photoshop.

I'm certainly no expert, but my preference would be for the colour version with a closer crop to emphasise the veggie a bit more.

I do think the 2nd bw is better, but I understand your point about wanting something different and creative, too. W/out knowing that's what you were going for it could be mistaken for a shot not executed very effectively though. Thanks for the explanation. Best wishes!
