Trafalgar Square, London. Back when you could still feed the pigeons.
The woman was with her girlfriend and naively trusted the birds to behave properly. I knew better so I clicked away as the scene developed.
Four shots- scanned from slides and converted.

I think the third shot is the best. The expression on the woman's face is priceless.

Thanks for commenting.
My intention here is as a series- the woman's expressions evolving from happy to concerned.

Very good pictures, lovely expressions on her face, very well done. I like number 4. Somehow she looks vulnerable

Great series Charlie. This has terrific commercial potential if you are selling pigeon droppings. along with seagulls, "rats of the air".

Ha-ha! Great series, and nice catch in knowing how it was going to turn out. Kind of like sports shooting. It helps to be able to predict the play, and you called this one right, Coach Shugart. I love the last expresson!

Thanks gentlemen and T-bone .
Tim ONeill- I hate seagulls because they steal from REAL fishermen like pelicans and cormorants), and I also think of pigeons as rats that fly (but I didn't say that at first because I knew if you commented- YOU would .
Peter- About Nelson: they put his statue at the top of a very tall pillar so you wouldn't be able to see all the pigeon crap on his head .
T-bone- now that you're feeling better, I expect the occasional slam from you. You owe me that .

The first one for me. Brings a big smile to my face, rather than fear (as in Hitchcock's The Birds). I saw several times pigeons being actually chased and shredded to bits by other birds (crows, seagulls, they would single out one pigeon and then dive, 2 3 together, until they got it... yuuuck !!!)

Thanks, Scott, Josh and Santiago.
I've never seen crows hunting, and the only time I've seen a seagull hunting was in Yukon Territory and a seagull was chasing a baby swallow that was just learning to fly. I've read that in New York City some peregrine falcons have taken up residence among the tall buildings. Their favorite food? Pigeons. But they don't eat their heads. Occasionally New Yorkers will be sitting outside during lunch break, and the mutilated head of a pigeon will fall from the sky and land at their feet. That would sure be a yuuuck- methinks.

What a wonderful series Charlie. The first and last two are priceless with the womans expressions. You have a very fitting title also. Nice work.

As long as it didn't land in my soup, I'd be OK with it. Nature is about creatures eating other creatures. Great series Charlie. It illustrates why it 's usually a bad idea to feed wild animals.

This is just such a great series of images describing how a sweet smile and love of pigeons can turn something of fear, intimidation and disgust.
Thanks for posting it Charlie

Mr. Chile,
I never disliked pigeons until I traveled to Europe and saw thousands of magnificent statues in outdoor venues- and they all had pigeon poop dripping down their heads. So- go NYC falcons! Eat your fill.
Yeah, nature involves some species eating other species, but I have to wonder about way back in time when all species were plant eaters, and one sick fellow thought, "I'm tired of eating rabbit food, I think I'll kill and eat that guy over there."

The seagulls were in Venice, Piazza San Marco, several times. Seagulls are very clever, adaptive birds. The crows ? Right here where I live, in Switzerland. Clever birds too, but here I have the impression that there's an ecological imbalance (too many crows and no predators) causing this behaviour.
