My three daughters, (From Right to Left) Csilla, Katalin, and Eva. I was lucky to get them all to be willing to pose for me at the same time for a couple of minutes. I shot this for the Weekly Assignment topic - "Backlight". I hope you like it!

Love the light and the profiles Endre. Quite a lovely family tree you have going for you. Without giving up up enough details that you would have to kill me, could you explain your lighting. It is very effective.

Thanks so much, Patsy. You are such a sweetheart! I'm so glad you like it!

Did I wish you all the very best for a wonderful 2010? If not... I do!

All best wishes,

Endre

Thank you very much, Tim! Yes, my lovely daughters are a blessing. My precious son, Antal, would should have been in the photo in between Csilla and Katalin, but tragically he passed away a little over three years ago.

As to lighting - This was really an experiment. I used one of my Alien Bees AB 800 strobes with a 30% grid and barn doors to focus the light. At the same time, I had a reflector to bounce some of the AB light back onto their faces. I won't kill you now that you know, but don't tell anyone else.

All the best,

Endre

Endre,
Absolutely beautiful portrait. One that will be cherished for years, no doubt. I love your lighting and the rich black in the background. However, I think you really nailed it by allowing just a small amount of light to come back to their faces with the reflector. Well done, friend.

On another note, I am sorry to hear of Antal. I'm sure he is there in spirit.

Best to you and yours in 2010!

Regards,
Matthew

Endre,
This is a beautiful portrait. I love everything about it. My only nit would be the brightness of the forehead onyour daughter closest to the light. A little toning down and it would be perfect.
On another note I am sorry to read about the loss of your son. It is truly a tragedy when a parent loses a child. I can feel your pain as I lost my daughter about 18 months ago. No parent should have to endure the loss of a child.

A mesmerizing photograph. Le fil rouge, as we say in french, the common point being the eyes, the common ancestry (as seen from this angle, however I wouldn't dare writing the same if I could or was seing those eyes in front of me )

The "rest", everything other than the eyes is the personnal, individual evolution of each one of your girls, and you have shown this beautifully.

Endre, your daughters are beautiful, and this image only serves to enhance their good looks. Backlighting is my favorite way to light a shot. You have done a magnificent job with this image.
My best,
Janice

Thank you very much, Matthew. I am so glad you like it and I appreciate your very kind comments.

Thanks, too, so very much for the condolences. The pain of Antal's loss is never far away. However, you're right about him being nearby in spirit. I have collected a log of well over 150 pages of rather uncanny events that can only be explained by Antal's leaving us messages of his continuing well-being. That is a real source of comfort. I'm also sure he helps me with my photos.

All best wishes,

Endre

Thank you, Klaus, for your very kind comment and also for the suggestion. I did tone down that one spot a tad and I think it helped. I'm delighted that you like it.

I am so very sorry about the loss of your daughter. "No parent should have to endure the loss of a child. " - you're certainly right about that. Sadly, though, there are those of us who have to endure it. No one who has not gone through that can fully understand, yet I always pray that we should not be understood, since it can only mean a similar loss. Terrible!! I'll e-mail you.

Warm regards,

Endre

Great control with the lighting here. You got the light hitting all 3 the same exact way. You got the eyes and lips perfectly. Nice stagger composition, as well.
