Coo shot, Tom! How'd you do that? You must live in the Southwest - the only place in the country that has trees and a sunny sky - thanks to Global Warming. Nice wok!

All best wishes,

Endre

Very impressive image but it has a bit too much PP for my taste.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

Has it been pp'd?

I thought it was a natural reflection?

Thanks for the nice comments.

I shot this using my new fisheye. There are these polished aluminum tubes that cross the streets in the Galleria area of Houston (you can see its pair off to the right in this shot). I thought it would be neat to combine the distortion of the fisheye with the distortion of the curved reflection of the tubes so I put my camera directly against the tube (actually I shot this upside down - the image you see above is rotated 180 degrees) and fired away.

The tubes kind of limit what you can shoot as their angle of view is fixed and a lot of them merely front ugly shopping areas. Nevertheless, they've intrigued me for some time now (see my entry last year for "Overhead" - http://www.flickr.com/photos/tomhaymes/4069697257/) but I've struggling to figure out how to use them effectively.

It is pretty cold here for Houston standards. We've gotten down to 20 the last two nights and it was in the upper 30s when i took this shot yesterday afternoon.

Yakim. I'm not sure what you mean by "PP."

Thanks again,

Tom

Polished aluminum tubes? Oy Vey..... Please forgive me for my stupidity and ignorance. I humbly apologize.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

PP = PhotoShopped - I see. No - nothing other than the B+W conversion and a little playing with the levels here.

Thanks for your mistake. It makes me feel good to know that people thought this was heavily manipulated in PhotoShop. It's good to know that sometimes the world can be weirder than you can create in a computer.

You see, some of us natives never saw anything like this.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

I was going to say that the scene did not look like Chicago and that the image would be a unique shot from the Bean! Something to explore the next time I am in Houston. Cool shot, but wow that is disorienting.

Yeah, I've never had the chance to shoot the Bean but I've seen shots taken of (or rather "with") it. One of these days I'll finally make it somewhere in Chicago other than O'Hare and Midway. (sigh)

These tubes are far less impressive. They're only about 2 ft in diameter and arc across the street. They live in pairs (as I said in a previous posting, you can see this ones mate on the right of the shot).

Thanks for looking and thanks for the nice comment.

Thanks, Beverly. I'm still in the "playing around" phase with the new lens. It's definitely fun.

Tom,

Nice creativety, and persistance for a challanging subject. I would ration that you only had about a minute or so to work with, balancing that shooting angle with the cooperation of the sun's position. Congrads.

Best Regards,
Kurt

Well thought out Tom. It takes "the eye" to see these sort of scenes.
