p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · autofocus stuttering?

noticed today that my recently acquired 16-35l is having problems focusing, specifically from close to far.
when i press the af on button, the af, if set to minimum distance, moves about 1/3 of the way, and then stops and the af light blinks
i have to press the button 2 more times, and then itll reach infinity, and the focus light will stay lit.
this is the older version and is out of warranty, so what should i do? is fixing this an option on my own, or will canon fix it? im a cps member so fixing it shouldnt cost to much.
ive tried it on my 1ds, and my 40d, but both exhibit the problem...

As you've tried it on two bodies and the same problem occurs then the issue is with the lens. Send it in to Canon tech or at least give them a call to discuss first. It could be a dirty contact that you could clean up yourself - you never know.

Good luck.

Pierre.

So I brought it in, and they looked at it, fixed my filter thread, and looked at the AF issue.
Of course, since it was working, they couldn't replicate and said to just keep using it.
Well I went to use it this AM and of course, it start with the stuttering :P
So i threw it in the freezer for an hour, took it out, and it worked perfectly !:P!
Course, I let it thaw out, and now its stuttering again!
I guess itll have to go back to canon! What I want to know is if Ill have to pay for more repairs now, since they didn't fix That issue, but they repaired other issues.

Only shoot that lens in the winter...outdoors of course I feel your pain but I've never experienced it myself.
