Thanks to both of you for the comments - it's always good to hear different thoughts/perspectives on what I do!
Navyblue - I chose the tennis shoes to be the main focus because when I get home my focus is on changing into something comfortable. I tried to accentuate that by using an f-stop that leaves the heeled shoes slightly OOF. True, the tennis shoes aren't as "beautiful" as a nice pair of heeled shoes, but comfort isn't always chic!  I can see, though, how it would totally change the feel of the shot to have switched the pairs of shoes (and perhaps change the title to "Off to work").
Yakim - I did crop this slightly and still felt that I had too much open space on the front right, so I added a little vignette to darken that corner. I think I'd have to change the shoe laces and/or slightly move my position to decrease the open space there.
