Yes it is pretty amazing how far digital camera has came along. I have the D700 and I am not afraid to shoot at 6400 ISO. On my previous camera, I try not to shoot over 1600 ISO.

Um guys, we know what Iso 1600 looked like back in the day, who cares if it's a cropped camera, they didn't have FF cameras back then, so all you have to say is ooooh, ahhhh.
We're so lucky to have FF cameras now that shoot so clean at Iso 1600 and beyond.

I'm sure even if you posted a D300 1600 shot it wouldn't look much different to that D700 shot, especially since it's downsized so much. More to the point imagine how bad that 1D pic must look at 100%

Hey Paul, you made the switch to Nikon?

The pixel peepers always make me chuckle when they lament about the noise in the D300, D700 and so and so on. They may not have been around when Daniel Berman ( Tazo ) posted his basketball shots from his D70. Now that was noise. Maybe he can bring that one back for chuckles

Noise was never an issue for me especially when I saw the print. WB on the other hand...

Good to see you posting in the Nikon forum.

It is easy to see noise in the first shot, even though reduced for the web.

That first shot looks terrible, and I can't imagine what it would be like at full resolution.
