1) Do you know if anyone makes a Grid for the Elinchrom (Rotalux) strip box - 14"x35" ?

2) It not, what are the alternatives for keeping the light focused and preventing spill? I don' think the strip diffuser (offered) will prevent spill, but haven't used it myself.

The box and grid will act as a rim light for full body portraits.

Thanks!
Kevin

No but you can buy the new Elinchrom hooded diffusers which will control light spill to some degree.

I have one of those strip boxes, too, and I also wondered the same thing.
Someone else had asked a similar question recently, making me
think about it...

Would it be worth a try asking at one of those clothing repair/alteration shops, usually run by gold-handed, super-patient, friendly Chinese women,
and give all the proper measurements, have one custom-made done?
The original outer diffuser is attached to the reflector with velcro strips,
so I'd imagine grabbing a piece of such fabric, from Walmart or so, stitching it together with number of black strips - the grid, being a fairly simple task for
a handy person, to do. Inexpensive, too.

I have the grid for the square and really wish I had one for my strip, but alas there isn't one. I've got other cheaper strip/grid boxes too but the Rotalux is so nice I usually just flag with pieces of velvetine, strips of black BG paper or chunks of foam core as needed or available. Although the hooded diffuser is attractive, it does make my 27" square a bit more cumbersome to set up.

Good luck.

how does that grid attach to the front of the box? From looking at other Elinchrom boxes there are no available Velcro once thew front diffuser fabric is installed.

abdul,

The grid is sewn into a hooded diffuser, which attaches via gussets the same way as a normal front diffuser. The main difference is that rods thread along the corners of the grid diffuser to keep it recessed and taught, with no grid sag or folding like cheaper grids. The only disadvantage is that it makes it slow to install or remove the grid diffuser from the rods each time you pack or set up, so I just leave it on and slide the grid diffuser back down into the box before it all goes beddy bye in it's case.

Good luck.

Elinchrom has no plans to offer a grid for their strip light boxes. Instead they have authorized a Canadian company to develop and distribute a line of grids for all of Elinchrom's softboxes.

That's good news Mark, thanks for responding. Now let's see how many threads we can start speculating their arrival date.

Mark,

Great news, especially if the "Canadian company" happens to be Lighttools, the best little grid company in ze world, IMO.

I think you may have just breathed new life into my 53" Rotalux.

This would be so nice... only I wonder how long it will take for this to come to fruition...

Thanks Carmen! And thanks Mark for the reply. Crossing my fingers it's sooner than later. Hey Mark, any hints as to which company so we can "pre-order" with them and show our interest?
