I have a Contax/Zeiss 85/2.8 and would like to get a hood for it. I've been looking for a list of what hoods and caps go with what lenses, but haven't found anything yet. Can anyone tell me which Contax hood I should get for this lens, or failing that recommend some other hood that will suffice?
From what I can tell, the hood system for the Contax reflex cameras works like that of the Contax G cameras, where they have tubes and step-up rings, and you have to get the right combination for a particular lens. Is that right?
Most folks seem to like the snap-in style caps because they don't fall off. But I prefer the slip-on style, because the way I work is to carry the camera in my right hand with the cap on most of the time. When I want to shoot, my left hand removes the cap as my right hand lifts the camera to my eye. Then as I put the camera down, my left hand puts the cap back on. But this is much harder to do with a snap-in cap. The Contax G caps were very good for working this way.
Yes, my right hand doesn't know what my left hand is doing.
Also, I'm expecting my ZE 35/2 to arrive any day now, and presumably it doesn't come with a hood. Looking at the pictures of the Zeiss W/A hoods on B&H, they seem somewhat minimal, and I'm wondering if they offer any real benefit. Do the ZE hoods come with the appropriate cap as well?
Thanks,
Neil
