p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · OM to EOS Adapter question

I just bought a Olympus 28mm 3.5 lens for my 5D. This will be my first manual focus lens, and I am really interested in getting into the large world of manual focus lenses. Anyway, I need to buy an adapter and I was wondering what your guys opinions are on skimping with an adapter. I can get one generic ebay adapter for about $13, or the fotodiox version for $25. Is the extra money worth it?

Just speaking for myself here. I've always had excellent results with Fotodiox consumer grade adapters. They're not as expensive as some, and I never thought the Pro grade was worth the extra bucks - but I've never had a Fotodio let me down.

With alt gear, lots of things can go wrong, and it's sometimes difficult to diagnose the problem. Adapter problems are one of the big problems you can run into, especially when you're starting out. I'd spend the extra $12 and eliminate the adapter from the problem equation -

I have non-Fotodiox adapters that came with my Oly's when I bought them from other people, plus one that I bought from Ebay (Texas, I think) ... no real problems so far.

OTOH ... I had a Mamiya to EOS shift adapter (from Kiev) that gave me fits. That having been said, I'm sure I spent more than $12 in aspirin & beer. I actually sold off a great lens before I realized my issues were in the adapter. Obviously, the shift adapter is a unique animal that you are not looking at (not yet anyway ).

FotoDiox seems to have a good rep with several people, so I'd recommend minimizing your variables (especially to start) if the cost differential is only $12. If you decide to keep going with more Oly's you could then pick up a cheaper one and compare it with your FotoDiox as verification.

FYI, www.lensrentals.com stocks FotoDiox adapters (Nikon - EOS) ... which probably speaks well for FotoDiox products also.
