p.1 #1 · Mounting Mola to Profoto D1

Can anyone explain exactly what I'd need to attach my Profoto D1 heads to a Mola beauty dish (specifically, the Mantti dish: http://www.calumetphoto.com/item/MO1043/)?

I *think* -- from what I can puzzle out from the Mola website -- that the Mola dishes each come with "clips" to attach various speedring inserts. So I buy the dish, which comes with the clips, and separately buy something like this:

http://www.calumetphoto.com/item/RD6230/

Is that correct?

Next, the Mola website says "When mounting a Profoto speed ring for use with a Profoto D1 monolight use the Mola RIGID clips only." Does the Mantti dish comes with the "rigid" clips already? Or is this yet another item to be purchased separately?

Correct for the first part, but you might have to ask Calumet whether they will include the rigid clips, no?
Btw, are you sure that the D1 is capable to fill the Mantti? Even with the wide angle dome attached I'm not sure if it will...

The Mola comes with everything you need to mount a speed ring insert to it - rigid and flex clip, bolts, washers, posts for the inner deflector, the correct hex key, etc. No extra bits needed - just your mount of choice. The choice of 'flex' or rigid' clip depends on if the speed ring insert (SRI) has a flat or beveled flange.

You WILL want to insure you have the combined handle/mount for the dish - it mounts the dish to the boom, etc taking any weight off the light - especially with such a large dish like the Mantti. IIRC if they are included automatically or not (I think they are) as my Demi doesn't have that option.

Just get yourself a Profoto speed ring insert and 15 min later you're good to go. I prefer the Chimera units, but the Calumet one look just as good.

What Conner said.
Also look at the latest news section of the mola site, it mentions using the additional frosted dome for the d1 to give you the best light output and take advantage of the mola shape.

Check out their new blog if u haven't, a few posts on shots taken wiv the mantti. Looking forward to mine arriving soon

Take a look at LL and the video of the Leica S2 vs Phase review - about 14mins of Mantti use. Looks like a sweet dish.
