p.1 #1 · I'm headed to Toroweap

Hi all,
I'm going to spend a few days at Toroweap on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon in early December. I've never been there but admire the images I've seen from there. Weather will be unpredictable so I know I'm taking my chances with that. Any suggestions or advice for me from those who've been there, especially those who've been there in December.

Thanks,

Ted

many will mention the danger to treads along the road . . . really no worse than anything else I've seen, just that it's very long (60+ miles) and there's so more chances to go wrong.

Be very aware of the fact that there are mildly hilly stretches of bentonite clay that can be essentially undriveable in rain or snow regardless of four wheel drive, high clearance, compound low gearing or even chains. it can be driven on if it's frozen solid, so early and late can allow access. but if there's precip in the forecast, get road info from the ranger station out there or even kanab.

Thanks Derek, good info about the muck. BTW, congrats on the Arizona Highways spread. Your images are beautiful.
