Well, I've been lurking for some months on fredmiranda.com. However, this is my first time posting any of my work. Both images were taken in the Oneonta Gorge this past summer. I am generally pleased with how the images are progressing but would like to hear what you think. I enjoy hearing praise and appreciation of my images as much as the next person but I would really value some serious C&C. BTW, I have yet to get my monitor calibrated so let me know if anything looks awry.
Sorry, just praise and appreciation from me, I like them both very much. The lighted and shadowed areas of the gorge in the first are fantastic, especially with the green moss all lit up like that. I thought at first you might consider a small crop off the bottom of the second image, just above the rock in the lower right so the diagonal line of the near little cascade terminates closer to the corner of the frame, but that is minor and probably more of a nit pick that criticism...
i love #1, it is simple and has excellent light, depth, and colors. #2 is a lovely presentation - perhaps the falls itself seems a bit centered for my taste. very nice processing and maybe post some more.
David: I've been looking at cropping a little from the bottom of the second shot. I hadn't noticed it before but I think I agree with your suggestion. It seems like a slight crop may bring a little better balance to the image.
You've been on here since March and you're just now posting images? And images like these!? I think you should post your work more often... These are killer! Number one is outstanding and number two isn't far behind by any means. Great work and I look forward to seeing more... A lot more! By the way, the colors look spot on to me. Wonderful green.
Color looks great and realistic! Contrast is fine too.
They are both beautiful. The only thing that bugs is the highlights in the top in the second but I'm sure you know that otherwise you wouldn't be asking. Bracketing and blending doesn't always work for that. When posting 2 images it's almost always certain one will overpower the other. the first is my fav, the sidelighting there is just perfect.
The glow on the rocks is amazing in the second, I love it! Actually I like the whole image, but the rocks near the bottom are definitely my favorite part of the photograph.
Very cool place and good first post! First max 700px tall and number pictures for easy critiquing (yes only 2 here) :-P
1 is very cool. The top little bright bit is a bit distracting but cropping just below it really brings things together. Good work w/ 2. Not sure the crop is necessary either way but could work. Bright sky is a bit of a detractor...maybe double process and blend back in darker? Very solid images keep it up
Excellent first post, and I would say about time!
The 1st is extraordinary! Love the gently lit walls and smooth clear stream. I like Aaron's idea to crop just the bit of brightness at the top. Love the reflecting rocky bed at the bottom of the 2nd as well your perspective.
Yes, keep 'em coming.
On to your shots. Nice use of the frame space, well exposed with tonalities close to what I would expect to see back there. Colors look good...I think you have recorded this area very well.
Great shots Bryan. I really like your composition in #2. Super shutter speed too. I don't see any colour issues here but I would recommend that you calibrate your minitor
