I want to pose my next bridal party like those owls. Once in a lifetime capture dude.
Haha - tagged for inspiration! How true, how true. Maybe I should base all my group shots on cool nature shots. It's definitely copying - but in a different kind of way...
Thanks, Tony! I love the photo but I wasn't going to enter it in any competitions because the focus is a little soft. I figured it would get big mark-downs for that. But I showed it to some friends at an APAG workshop and they got excited and told me I should definitely enter it. Good thing I showed it to them.
Really nice Brian. Where have you been? Angie says that shot is is amazing. Usually you only see an owl by itself. Seriously cool. Are you going to be at WPPI again this year?
Melanie, They ordered a wall size print for the burrow.
Pat, I burst out laughing when I read that. Please, send me a link to the photo when you shoot it.
Mineymole, Thanks for your support.
Thanks, Andy. I've been busy with the business. Decided I need to invest more time in the community where I live and less time online. It's paying off. Plus I got involved with the APAG group in our region and met a couple of photographers who've been giving me really great critiques of my work. Tell Angie I said thanks. Burrowing owls live in prairie dog burrows and their the only owls that hunt during the day. I'd been photographing and watching them for awhile. This photo is the first time I saw the fledglings outside the burrow. Yes, I'm planning to go to WPPI. Are you and Angie presenting again? I'm considering Imaging USA, too. Just not sure I want to attend both.

If you're in town for IUSA, I'm looking to get together some sort of get-together. Let me know old friend.
We used to see a lot of burrowing owls just like this on a golf course out in the keys. We haven't been down there in a while, but I expect they are doing quite well. They are out often during the day and standing around just like that. Too funny - I never thought of going in for a photo. Thanks for explaining!
DB, Apparently it's the males that stand outside the burrow like that. I'd been driving by and occasionally photographing the prairie dogs for a few years before I noticed owls in the mix.

Brian,
Love the background info on the picture. Me and angie used to try, and failed miserably, to get some pictures of an eagle that hangs out by our house. We could just never get that close.
We are teaching again at WPPI. This time its a Platform open to everyone and not a masterclass. Look forward to seeing you there. Gets expensive to go to both.
Thanks, Angie! I look forward to seeing you and Andy at WPPI.
Andy, My neighbors said there was an Eagle that hung out in the tree in their back yard this summer and the rabbits were hiding under their trampoline and darting from place to place hiding from it. If I'd know, I would've tried to get some shots of it. I think wildlife photography needs to include a lot more urban and suburban wildlife.

Evan, Are you going to IUSA? I'd think you would since it's in your home town. I'd definitely like to get together while I'm there, if I go.
Thanks, Ziffl3. How about father time? Any tricks for messing with him?
Brian ...
The trick with father time ..... lots of money and a good plastic surgeon.
.. I know a retired nuero-surgeon and am about broke ... i'm doomed.
