That picture looks phenomenally sharp to me. Thank you for posting it. Is it a 100% crop? Has it been processed in any other way other than saturation/brightness/sharpness setting?

2. The bird pics posted earlier are 100% crops taken from the sharpened RAW output, processed by DPP; sharpness setting 6.
If these are 100% crops from a 5D2, you really don't have a significant focus problem. You could make a 16 x 24 print from this and it would look quite good.

Henry.
That's a non-cropped image. RAW converted in LR, typical LR edits (increase in vibrance, blacks and contrast) resized and sharpened for web. That's what I do with all my images. I've never had an issue with my 24-105's sharpness.
(I just looked at the original file and this was actually taken at 50mm though)
Interesting... My experience with new L lenses is that it's not at all uncommon for there to be some issue or other that Canon needs to correct to bring the lens up to spec. I'm sure glad you've got this resolved. Have fun (EOSfun?) with your new toy!
Another thing - one poster mentioned about putting the camera in green mode to do a test. When I got my camera and lens back from Canon recently, that was the mode the camera was left in.

Makes sense to me. This is the mode that would tell the Canon service folks the camera is functioning correctly and making all the proper decisions.
