i have my 1D mark II 1 Monat ago and i love it
My problem is when i buy this the shuttercount is 180k and now 185k..My camera has no problem
Next month i will go with my girl friend to Paris. Is so so bad when the shutter die there. Canon says 200k clicks, believe u this?
Should i trade my 1D II for a newer 5D for 200 Euro?
All comments are welcome...
Canon's shutter count MTBF rating is just that - a MTBF rating. It is not a countdown to destruction. A 1-series shutter can last 1-million+ clicks or it can die at 1000 clicks.
My last two MkII's each had 500,000 clicks and were still going strong when I sold them. My current two MkIII's probably have nearly that many.
Any time you are shooting something very important with only one camera body there is a risk that something could break and shots will be lost. There are 1000 things that can wrong with a modern camera, the shutter is just one of them.
I would get a lighter camera like 5D or 5D2 since you're not taking action photos and don't need that fast AF. Low ISO and clean is what you need for traveling IMO.
I know i love to have a 5D but 200 Euro is so much for me now
Did anybody know the imagequality from 5D und 1D II. Is 200 Euro wert?
Thx for ur comments
So your camera is in human terms something like a retiree. 65 years old or so. When will their heart stop? Can't really say. The camera has been reliable to this point so you're likely fine unless you go bananas and take 50,000 shots Enjoy Paris, wish I was there too.
IQ is like night and day between 1D2 and 5D especially in low light.

Can attest to this, I have both. I always thought the images from the Mark II always looked like my 20D. 5D is WAY better. But, the 1D Mark II feels sooooooo much nicer. The 7D and the Mark II make the 5D feel like a toy ;-). I just like heavy cameras.
My point is 5D full-frame would be a better choice for your vacation especially in Paris. Files coming out of 5D is sharper than 5D2 since the AA filter is less in 5D. The old classic 5D still has better IQ than 1Dmk2.

Nice shot !!!
but 1D II vs 5D II is no chance
I can't let this go. I have both the 5D and 1DsII, and while I love the quality of the files from the 5D and wouldn't give it up, the camera is certainly not the equal of the 1DsII for image quality, auto-focussing, or .......................
^ Bob, they're talking about the 1D II and not the 1Ds II and I agree with them. My 5D matches my 1D II for image qulaity and is better at high ISO. Of course the 1D II is better for AF and it doesn't have that stupid dial on top either....lol.
Having said that though, I'd recommend taking two bodies if you're worried about one failing. Dropping one or having it stolen is probably going to be more of a worry than your shutter though. Put a wide on the FF and hang it round your neck. Get the big one out of your bag for telephoto work.

The 7D and 5D are basically the exact same body (Same weight, size, and materials). And I do agree, the 5D/7D body feels like a toy compared to a 1 Series.
trung: Just take the 1DII, be happy with what it allows you to do and don't worry about the shutter. Save the 200 Euro for the trip... Since you're going with your girlfriend, and it's Paris, I can guarantee you she will help you find 'better' use for the 200 Euro.
In reality, how much better will the files from the 5D be than from the 1DII? It won't be that significant a difference.
