I took a shot similar to this a while ago, albeit the lighting was quite different, and people took to it well. I was wondering what you guys thought of this version.
OMG brings back memories - my first 35mm (Kodak Retina, ~ 1955) - think I still have it somewhere but shutter is all gummed up by now. IIRC did not have flash capability which was a bummer.
Even then I lusted for a SLR as a schoolmate had an Exakta SLR.

You were damn lucky - I only had a Retinette! (and I too lusted for an Exacta - (f/2.8 Domigon if I recall!))
I like it very much.
If I had to make a suggestion, and its minor, it would be to open the DOF slightly to allow a bit more of the front of the camera in greater focus. I find the blur lower image quite strong, slightly distracting.
My first camera? I cant remember the name the marketers came up with. A Polaroid instant camera that pushed out the print after a brief period. Then you squee-geed some solution over the print. Not exactly a quality act, but it was fun at the time.

And the fixer (squeegee) left streaks that turned sepia-brown for the spots missed - also had a noxious odor - today, kids would try sniffing 'em, squeegees that is.

Thanks everyone for the comments! It is, in fact, a Retina IIa and it's a fantastic little piece of machinery. It was given to me by a friend, he's an awesome guy, the nicest guy I've ever met honestly. I really should take it out more often, I just don't have time to develop film atm.
Since we have so many knowledgeable Retina fans here does anyone know if a yellow/orange cast is normal in the viewfinder? I'm wondering if it's the same effect that's seen on some Super Takumar lenses that can be taken care of with UV light exposure.
