I have been lurking around the FM board for some time, but haven't posted to many times. I plan to change this type of behavior and post more and share more.
To start, I would like to share some photos I took last weekend during the Seattle Seahawks vs the Detroit Lions football game at Quest Field, in Seattle, WA. And wow was it loud on the field.
All photos were taken with either my D700 + 400mm f/2.8 VR or D300 + 70-200mm f/2.8 VR
One suggestion, your cropping is a tad off. (went and checked out your gallery)
the ones posted here have several extra body parts, arms, feet and such.
Crop much tighter and "try and get the ball in the shot" I know, that can often be difficult.
Actually, I think if you look at 3 key elements...
Focus.
Ball in shot.
Depth of field (no distracting background) you will be in the ballpark ;-)
Others are far more experienced than I ... but that would be a good start.
You already have the ingredient's, just need the right recipe
I actually prefer tighter cropped football images. when I get some free time, I will look through my photos and apply some tighter crops and see what I can come up with.
using the D700 and 400mm gives me a lot of room for cropping and the opportunity to get a little creative. thanks again.

how did you get access to the sidelines? I'm always interested with sports photography... but I cannot ever get closer than 6th row in the stands..
I was assisting the Lions Team photographer. I was able to get a few shots off while he didn't need my assistance. I am working my butt off trying to find a permanent spot on the sidelines.
To comment on the horizon comment, I have found that a lot turf fields are not level and when shooting straight on from the endzone, you get a bit of a curve in your horizon.
I found this in two of the NFL stadiums that I have shot in that were also turf, as well as a couple of high school stadiums. Maybe its just a Washington State thing so that the water drains better, not sure?
I will see if I can dig up some more photos tonight.
What initially caught my attention was the Lions reference.
As I have lived in Michigan all of my adult life... I guess I still look with one eye closed at any reference to the Lions.
Yes you are right about the crown of the fields.
Also, I understand that you are under the gun... but with that, you sure have a great opportunity .
Hope all works out for you.
As the biggest story right now is Stafford, I would keep him in my sights most of the time... who knows maybe in years to come you might have a real gem to pull out of your files!!!
