p.1 #1 · For Canadians Remember

If you have any pictures of Our Soldiers, Military, Poppy, shots you wish to share today for our fallen soldiers please share, if not just remember them on this Rememberance Day

In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

— Lt.-Col. John McCrae (1872 - 1918)

For the Fallen
Remembrance Day Poems by Laurenc Binyon

With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
England mourns for her dead across the sea.
Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.

Solemn the drums thrill; Death august and royal
Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres,
There is music in the midst of desolation
And a glory that shines upon our tears.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England's foam.

But where our desires are and our hopes profound,
Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,
To the innermost heart of their own land they are known
As the stars are known to the Night;

As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain;
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end, they remain.

Remembering the fallen from Canada and the US on this day.

A vet to your south, Jim Turner

The last three remaining UK veterans of World War 1 died this year making today’s remembrance all the more poignant as it truly is now a lost generation. Remember them all.

We should remember those who fell in all wars, not just the brave and selfless Canadians. We owe it to them to appreciate what they won for us.

I totally agree and it's great that we do have such great neighbors to the north

I believe many people don't know how lucky we are that we had these brave men and women who gave so much, for us so we can come in here and complain about each other camera's.

I concur whole heartedly. To paraphrase Winston Churchill's remarks, "Never was so much owed by so many to so few."

Interesting when one sits back and considers the priorities of different generations. I wonder what we, as a generation, would do today under the same circumstances...

p.1 #20 · For Canadians Remember

Remembrance Day in Canada, like Veterans Day in the US, is to honor all veterans, both living and dead. Memorial Day is the day intended for remembrance of fallen soldiers. Veterans Day, on the other hand, honors ALL American veterans, both living and dead. In fact, Veterans Day is largely intended to thank LIVING veterans for dedicated and loyal service to their country. November 11 of each year is the day that we ensure veterans know that we deeply appreciate the sacrifices they have made in the lives to keep our country free.

I make these comments because this thread, like many others, meanders into an area of confusion between the two days. President Obama, in his address last Memorial Day, confused the two days, when he stated "On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes — and I see many of them in the audience here today – our sense of patriotism is particularly strong." Well, you don't see many of the people honored on Memorial Day sitting in the audience, unless you are able to see ghosts.

Not diminishing those who paid the ultimate price for service, Veteran's Day is primarily to honor the living.
