I had this lens before i get Planar C/Y 1,4/85. It`s very good lens especially wide open. Maybe focusing distance is 1m but it`s 1m from surface of the lens(planar 1m from sensor - it`s huge difference about 15-20cm for me especially in portraits)it`s suffer from flare...It has got CA too, sharpness stopped down isn`t as good as other 85. In my eyes this lens have some 3d but photos at f/1.4 looks like have more dof than Planar and Nikon at 1.4. But at f/1.4 it`s amazing lens!Great sharpness, contrast and 3d feel. Highly recommend - it`s superior too Nikkor or Canon 85 1.8 when used 1.4-2.8 only.
Some my shots - used with Fuji S5:
Nice shots Piotr_P! You really showed how good this lens is at 1.4 and with professional lighting.
IMHO that the C/Y 85/1.4 won't compete well with this lens at 1.4 at short portrait distances like this.
The Contax N 85/1.4 does well wide open at closer portrait distances and has smoother bokeh than the C/Y 85.
One question, did you have to photoshop out from his glasses the light reflections from the strobes?
C/Y Planar is different than Samyang - it`s have dreamy effect at f/1.4 I didn`t take any good portraits with it(because i got it for about 3 weeks) i post some when i will have occasion to make some. C/Y is sharp at f/1.4 i think little les than Samyang(center sharpness can be equal) but on FF camera f/1.4 it`s too litle dof. These pictures are take at f/2 and f/1.4(don`t belive in exif).
On photo you say "Damn thats sharp! "(f/2) i reduce saturation of reflection.
One more thing this lighting is one cheap strobe with umbrella cam right and one cam left - lighting increases the impression of sharpness.
I have bought it (Samyang version) to complement my 70-200 f4 on a classic 5D. I am very happy with it, I thought focusing would be harder but the EES screen is really helping at least in moderate moving subjects.
