p.1 #1 · ? about Mack warranty for new DSLR

Buying a Canon 7D from Best Buy this weekend. I wanted to get a Mack Warranty for it. (My cousin got his shutter replaced from them without problems) So anyways, Which should I get?:

-Adorama sells this one for $70, 3 years, under $2,000 camera and lens. (I plan to sell the lens) http://www.adorama.com/IMXW69.html

-This company called Ted Unlimited sells them also. I called and they have two different ones that would fit: http://www.mack-warranty.com/?gclid=CNOX4KqM8p0CFWpd5Qod2DyTxg

-Under $3000 - professional- 3 years=$99, or 5 years=$129.
- DIAMOND- Digital or Video Camera Under $2,000- 3 years=$234. (This is more like an insurance policy, it covers:

* Manufacturer defects
* Impact damage
* Sand/grit damage
* Accidental and unintentional abuse
* Mechanical malfunctions
* 2 free CCD cleanings for life of contract
* 1 free video head cleaning for life of contract
* Normal and abnormal wear and tear
* Product replacement after (3) consecutive repairs for same reason

I am leaning more toward the 5 year plan since it is not much more than the 3 and I have a regular insurance policy for my camera gear that if I remember correctly, is less than $234 for 3 years.

Can you buy the camera with a credit card which offers a free extension on the factory warranty? Many AMEX and Gold-level or higher VISA cards provide this service. That gives you two years, no added costs, and better service (at least from VISA & AMEX) than Mack could ever provide.

Don't waste your money. Studies show on average you loose when purchasing an extended warranty.

One benefit of the mack warranty is that if you sell the camera before the warranty expires, the warranty is transferable (for a $20 fee). This really helps the resale or trade-in value.

Also, I had to use the warranty and the Mack service was terrific. They sent the camera to Canon and it was fixed with no charge to me.
