I sold my Canon Xsi and lenses because this hobby can get extremely expensive. Some thing is wrong when I have to borrow against my house just so I can afford $1,000 'L' lens.
Regarding your choice of Canon or Nikon camera, you may want to browse Canon mount gear or Nikon mount gear forums here at FM before you decide. Or you can post that very same question in this Misc forum.
Deciding whether to buy Canon or Nikon gear is a very personal matter.
