p.1 #1 · Road To Fort Pickens......

Hello all, while I usually prefer posting one image at a time, these three seem to go together. Fort Pickens is on a barrier island south of Pensacola. The access road is between sizable dunes of sugar white sand. There are several turn outs providing beach access. The wind blows continuously (as you can see from the patterns around the foreground plant in the first image), and, when in the open, one can nearly always look down to see a fine 'mist' of sand blowing by. The white dusting on the road in the third image is mostly 'moving' sand. The distant figure in the second and third is Jose'.

Thank you,

PS - we plan to return in the Spring hoping for a bit less boisterous weather .

Hi Hugh
Nicely done.

I definitely like the way you have used the grass to compose #1 and #2, never would have occurred to me

I am not too sure about the footprints in top right in #1, i seem to like them and then not, still confused.

Foreground in #3 appears a bit soft, probably DoF?

If i have to pick one of the series, i think i'll pick #2, though i like all 3

And i haven't been on FM much. All the day is spent "commuting to work - at work - commuting back from work"!

Interesting (and cool) set Hugh. At first glance I was wondering when the heck it snowed in Florida and even after your explaining that it's fine white sand I keep looking at them and thinking it's snow especially in #2 & 3.

Very nice set, hugh. I like the detail in first one. Not typical from what we usually see from you, especially regarding the colors.

Good series Hugh. I really like the signs of the swirling winds in the first. Good work.

Not your usual style , Hugh , but very successful nonetheless . By a very curious coincidence I recently photographed a very similar scene on the island of Berneray , North Uist in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland ! The sand was not quite so white , but otherwise identical with marram grass , wind-swirls and doggy(?) footprints . How strange is that ?

Hugh, I love the "weed prints" of the first, but fine the "foot prints" distracting.
Nice series...

Hey Hugh,
Delightful, and different set from you. Really like the 1st, though I'm un-decided about the footprints. I like the comp in the 2nd very much, but I wish the sky wasn't so dark and vignetted. Just a personal thing, prolly.

hugh, what happened to the reds and pinks? #1 is for me, and i'd probably remove the footprints.

What beautiful sand, Hugh. And, like Binh, I missed the pinks and blues.

I really like the first shot. Very interesting brush strokes in the sand, courtesy of mother nature. Terrific detail on this shot. I also agree with Binh on cloning out the footprints.

Cheers,
Ed

Well seen and captured Hugh. I love the swirls that the grass creates.

I like these. 1 is a beautiful intimate study. The footprints and lines in the sand are great. The sand looks like snow in the other two images!

Hello Karl, thanks for commenting. I was shooting with Jose' and somewhat out of my normal mode. It was fun for a change, and I'm glad you enjoyed the results.

Very nice work! You were luckier than I am Hugh. Whenever I had a chance to go there, the road was closed due to massive drifting sugar white sands. There are beautiful shots to be had if you turn around on the same road and head east past Pensacola.

Great daylight images and not your usual fare, which speaks volumes. I'm torn between the 2nd and 3rd. The third for the great blacktop and the second for the super comp. I think it's the 2nd for me. And feel free to clone me out!

Best,

Jose

Thanks Rich, it was the moving blades of the plants 'writing' their unfathomable messages to the universe that captured my attention. The other images evolved from there. Glad you enjoyed the set

Good set. #2 really grabs my attention. Personally I'd get rid of the corner vignettes and also your Bud. This has a lot going for it in comp, color and design.

Wayne.
