I have an old XP computer and a new Win7 computer.Easy transfer is on both computers. The instructions for the XP ver say to install my programs on the new machine before using WET. The instructions for the WIN7 machine say to do the transfer first, then install the programs... WTF!!
Anyone used WET to transfer files from an XP machine to a Win7 machine? My gut feeling is to use the instructions for the W7 'puter because that's where everything is going...
Another problem - my old monitor is a Viewsonic Nx1932W that FIOS sent me for signing up. I've only used it as a tv until tonight. It won't detect that it's connected to a computer - it says "no signal". I d/l the instructions for the monitor, but they were no help. They don't give any info on how to set it up, so I'm assuming that when I use the vga connection, it's supposed to auto detect.
Follow the wizard on your Windows 7 machine. It will install the transfer utility to your external hard disk (assuming that is how you are doing the transfer). Run this on your XP machine which will save the programs/settings/data to your location of choice (an external disk is a good choice here). Once done, connect this to your windows 7 machine and run the wizard again and it will guide you through it.

Sorry, but I think it's a pretty bad idea to xfer from an XP machine to Win 7. I haven't done it, nor will I, but if there's ever a time to start from scratch, this would be it.XP and Win7 are not compatible - as you know - and saving the couple of hours it takes to reload apps is not worth it IMO.
Regarding your monitor, do you have the right driver? make sure if you're going to 64bit Win7, you have a compatible driver (some 32bit drivers may be OK).
Thanx guys. The monitor just started working, so I was able to use WET - it took all day - I just finished...
What I was hoping was that all my firefox settings and bookmarks would be there when I opened it up. That did not happen. Can anyone tell me what folders I need to transfer in order to import my bookmarks and settings?
Thanx,
Ron

If that's your primary concern, have a look at http://www.xmarks.com/. Highly recommended. It'll even sync IE, if you like.
