p.2 #1 · Visiting Yosemite for the 1st Time, Questions
I am in Yosemite right now, it was 77 today in the Valley, blue skies, sunny and warm, did not even need a jacket today, yesterday was a little cooler in the am. Color is still great. I believe the forecast is for great weather all this week.
All the roads are open, no closures, some road work slow downs but during the week anyway the park is wide open.
I think only the deli in the village is still open for food but grocery store open and stays open. Deer everywhere.
Did I mention, still a lot of color, dog woods red gorgeous, yellows are stunning, we even found a clump of blooming lupines on big oaks flat road that you take to Tioga road.

Wow, talking about posting update from right there Thanks for posting the status. I'm very glad to hear about the good weather and still have lots of colors there. I know I'm asking too much now, does any of the waterfalls still look good?

p.2 #3 · Visiting Yosemite for the 1st Time, Questions
There is water in Yosemite falls and bridal veil not sure about others, but there was a storm about ten days ago that had a little snow and rain, as I was told more water here than usual this time of year. At Yosemite Falls if you are there in morning this time of year there is almost always a rainbow in the lower falls, as the sun rises the rainbow moves down towards the bottom, fun to see and capture. Today was once again around upper 70's, did not even need a jacket until late after noon and early am. Slight breeze and a lot of leaves falling which was wonderful to experience, still plenty of color on the trees. The deer are feeding everywhere really pushing it in for the coming winter, the ignore people, today I followed a mother and her young one for maybe 45 mins in Happy Isles, walking within ten-15 feet of them, they could have cared less what I was doing. As we were leaving we asked the ranger about weather, he said no precipitation predicted for at least a week, continued weather as this week has been, GORGEOUS.
Sure hope you have as great time as we have had and by the way, photographers everywhere, must be 10-1 ration of visitors.

platscha,
Thanks again for posting the status of the park. I'm very happy to hear that there are still waters for the yosemite falls and bridalveil. From everything I've read, the falls are pretty much dry by this time of the year. As you said, this year is different, which is good for us.
Following the deers sounds fun.
Enjoy your stay and I will be there in 2 days

p.2 #5 · Visiting Yosemite for the 1st Time, Questions
This time of year it all depends on the weather. If there is no precip many (but not all) falls can be dry. If there is some precip - as there was a few weeks ago - the falls come back to life, though often for a short time if the precip was rain rather than snow.
Some falls not really dry up though they diminish: Bridalveil, Vernal, Nevada, for example. Others do dry up completely, often because their water source is small and at lower elevations where the snow melts out sooner: Yosemite Falls and the scores of smaller seasonal falls.
