The last one is amazing, such a brilliant yellow face. Fly mask for Halloween?
What's #7?
As an aside, I just came back from SA a week ago, the flies were a killer. Big, slow and irritating; blowflies I think. Tons of houseflies when it got warm at Flinders Range.
Saw large aggressive ants too about 1 3/4 inch long with huge mandibles. I'm guessing they're the same as #4?
But wow, lethargic insects abound - hoverflies and bees - especially in the cold mornings... which also explained the amount of casualties when driving. The wifey didn't quite share the same anguish when she flicked the windshield wiper...
The unfortunate part of my experience: flash went on the fritz though, ugh, so no critter shots for me
The fly is especially memorable and photographically and technically very high quality too, by my personal preferences. Perhaps it should join the circus! Yet the others are almost as amazing in their uniqueness.
I suggest that all of us in the northern hemisphere should relocate to MarkB1's Australian location for the duration of the macro season! (just joking of course)
A macro convention? Not a bad idea. But the macro season doesn't really end here. Even in 'winter' a little banana gets the flies to visit during the day and feeds the Possum and bats at night.
