I used to have Epson 4000 that could print up to 17". Well I used it for a while but the ink and the upkeep cost suggested I should not keep it. Since I am not a commercial printer, that made sense. So here it was gone. In the last few years I have had just the Epson 1800 that can print up to 13" only. Just a week ago, my dear wife wanted a mural for her wine room and she wanted a certain picture for it. This picture was made with D3, a 12MP camera. She wanted it to be 40x60".
Well that would be a chalenge. Before I send it out to a commercial printer, I decided to do it myself with my little printer. So I enlarged the pic to 60x40", that was then devided in 5 pieces/panels.
The result is spectacular, in two ways:
1-- this D3, 12MP can deliver this size (40x60") of image with excellent IQ.
2-- my little printer can do it, five times
Here is the result, C&C are welcome. What do you think?

Yes you can do it, 12 inches than another 12" and another 12"...until you cover the whole 2000sf office
Actually few years ago, I threw out this idea on another photo chatroom but didn't get any good reception. Quite a few people thought it was a funky idea. At that time, my best camera had 6 MP, so I never put my idea to the test, until now and still I never thought the 12MP of D3 was capable of this size. Of course one can always stitch, but that is another story.

It sure would go faster for you. Just one thing: don't try to hide/blend the borders. You can't. So show them. I learned long time ago that what you can't hide, show it.

A last message:
I just finished the unintended project: vision, printing, framing and hanging on my wine room. What can I say? Vow! 42x63" mural. It is stunning even before I had a drop of wine. I first just wanted to see how it would work out and it it met my approval, I would send it to a commercial printer. Well, to my amazement, I don't need to. The 5 panels of this giant image worked out just fine.
