p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Contax to Canon Adapter

I have a Contax 28-80 lens that I want to use on my 5D Mark II. I bought an adapter from big_is on ebay. I need some advice as there are no instructions with it. The lens mount has four screws on the back but the adapter doesn`t have any. The only thing the adapter has is a small set screw on the side. Once the original mount is removed then this little screw is all that holds it on the adapter? This doesn`t seem very stable to me.

The 28-80 is a Contax N lens, so you won't be able to use it on your 5D2 without first having it converted to EF mount by Conurus. http://en.conurus.com/shop.php

The adapter you have is for Contax C/Y mount manual focus lenses and will not work with N lenses.

Thanks-they never said anything about N compatibility on the auction page so now I`ll have to send it back.

It's not that they don't mention anything about N compatibility, it is because there is no such thing as a Contax-N to EOS adapter. The seller assumes that buyers are aware of this.

These adapters are for Contax CY mount lens's. Those are manual focus lenses manufactured from 1975 to 2006, and the adapter market for those lenses is quite big, and has been for several years. When Conurus developed a completely re-fitted lens mount that would make Contax-N lenses perform in full auto focus/auto exposure mode, it was hailed as a milestone by Contax lens users. There has been much press about Conurus, and again, it is generally assumed that Contax lens users know about the Conurus lens mount conversion, especially because the aperture will not move without being fully interfaced to the EOS body.
