I love my 5D Mark II, but after seeing all the bells and whistles that the 7D has I wish the 5D Mark II had the same features that the 7D has. It wouldn't make it a better camera. Heck my 5D can still deliver the goods, but it's nice to have more bells and whistles that you can mess with.
I'm really going to be upset if Canon comes out with a 5D Mark III with all the features the 7D has. It's a good thing, but a bad thing at the same time since I already spend money on a 5D Mark II.

I am wondering what is wrong with 1Ds mkIII then.
+1.
People just want it for $2K instead of $8K...
Like the 5D before it, the 5D Mark II still has no direct competitor and remains in strong demand. I do not think it will be replaced until 2011 at the earliest.
There is a small chance a (new model) 3D will ship sometime before then, but I rate that as slight. If it does, expect to pay $3500-$4000 with a framerate of around 5-6fps, not 8fps like the 7D.

crappy LCD, inconsistent AF, and costs nearly $7K.
I am always curious about how the quality of LCD contributes to the final image.
I did not hear too many complaints about AF and it does not cost $7000. It is $6100 at most and there was a refurbished one sold for $4675 recently.
It will be my last camera, I buy. I truly do not like any of the recent camera models so I am NOT looking forward to 5D mkIII
I'm waiting for the 5D MKIII before I jump in, the 5D MKII wasn't what I was hoping for. They need to improve autofocus and especially flash metering before I will be interested. I don't care about live view, video, and frankly 21 megapixel. Give me a better tool than the original and I'll buy a couple.
Doubt very much the 5D2 will be upgraded until 2011. In the meantime IMHO the real issue is whether Canon are going to release either a "Rebel" full frame, or a full frame 7D featured camera (which will occupy a place in the lineup between the 5D2, and the 1Ds Mk4).
5D2 has no equivalent competition at its price point (unless you can make do with 12 megapixels with Nikon, or limited lens choice with Sony), but there is definitely room for a Canon FF below or above the 5D2. That's where the action will be in 2010, and I suspect it will be a full frame camera with 7D features for alot more money than the 5 series. Yep, the fabled 3D.
I feel like at this point that the cameras are so good that new updates are cool, but not really that big of a deal. I just bought a 5DII and I'm in love, but honestly, the photos I'm making aren't really any different than my 5D.
The one thing I truly appreciate is the better high ISO performance w/ the 5DII over the 5D. The reports on the 1DIV's high ISO noise level are great and would be wicked for low lights photos and video.
