I would love to see an 'ACME' version.

Very interesting. I never heard of that.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

Samyang optics is also preparing a few new products to be released this year. We cordially invite all interested photographers to our stand at upcoming Photokina show, where new products will be presented.

Maybe the 35 is still yet to come? This might be covered someplace else, but I wanna tag this thread.

Those are just current products in a new mount. There's new products coming too.

aaaa, I read (my bf copypasted it to me, so I don't know the source) that samyang is going to release some new stufffff soon! It was plural, so I guess that means there is something else coming tooooo beside that 35mm (WHICH I BELIEVE must be one of the new products cause they've been talking about it and there are rumors and promises of it coming 2010).
Hmmm.... I gotta ask him where he read about it, I'll tell you later.
There was a date too!

After reading your post I did some digging and found this:

Samyang optics is also preparing a few new products to be released this year. We cordially invite all interested photographers to our stand at upcoming Photokina show, where new products will be presented.

That's supposed to be from their press release.

Funny, Nikon made it's reputation by selling awesome Leica-mount compatible lenses that were used to cover the Korean war. I'd love for cheap, awesome alternative glass options.

Probably I better wait till the Photokina with buying a Canon FD 24/1.4 for conversion - when Samyangs 35mm/1.2 gets real, I probably buy the Samyang EF instead a Canon FD :-)
I am ok with the problems of the 14 mm Samyang, so the 35 mm Samyang will be ok for me too.

Ed, I'm curious what you don't like about their lenses. I too don't have much to compare, only the 85/1.4 and there are a few things I don't like about it:

1. MFD could be a little closer.
2. The focus throw and stiffness (throw to long for me and it's very stiff)...of course subjective to preference here.

Outside of those two things the 85/1.4 has good optics IMHO.

The MFD is the main problem with the samyang 85 1.4, other than that, it is perfect to me

Do you think we could adjust infinity focus to get a little closer, of course with the loss of infinity focus? Even the shortest ext. tube would make the useful range of focus a bit constrained right?

I have often pondered the thought of adding a thin shim between the mount and the barrel to reduce the MFD, sacrificing infinity in the process. I may actually have time over the next few weeks to try it out.

Well that's the same difference as adjusting the infinity focus right?

Yeah, except it is easier (I assume).

Actually, adjusting infinity wouldn't necessarily do anything for MFD, since this is an internal focusing lens.... hmmm.

I think I'll stick with the shim idea. I really hate taking lenses apart if I don't need to. Removing the mount and adding material is a no-brainer and easily reversible.
