Is it not better to buy GF1 with 20/1.7 lens for $899?

Yes, unless someone has an E-P1 they are buying the lens for as many appear to be doing.

I understand that but to pay $400 for this lens does not make much sense. I would rather buy the kit and either kept the body or sold it.

Say $1050 AUD purchase price

$78 Customs handling admin fee

$40 AQUIS (quarantine; these $%%^s don't even look at it; crime #1)

$75 shipping

That's $1,243, to which 1/11 (10%, GST, Goods and Services Tax, is added).

1,243 + 124 = $1,367

1367/1050 = 30%

The crime is in the charging the GST on the total, including shipping.

I buy all my pro and fun gear from bhphotovideo or brightscreen, so have done this many times. Still cheaper than buying here, usually.

So, when the GF1 body-only becomes available, I will buy it, and separately buy the 20/1.7. Way cheaper than buying the combo.

Now that is really shocking: the Panasonic 1.7/20 at f2 beats the Olympus 2.8/17 at its sweet spot, f4.5.

I think Olympus have to hurry to come out with some high grade lenses. I hate to say it but by now, they are a distant second in the m43 arena. Regarding cameras and regarding lenses.
