p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Mamiya to EOS Shift Adapters

Hi all,
I know this has been covered in the past, but I'm looking for a Mamiya to EOS Shift Adapter. A buddy of mine bought one from eBay about a year ago (maybe a little longer) and suggested I do the same. May have even been a Hartblei adapter. I can no longer find them and was wondering if anyone knew where I might get one.

Searched on Google and got nothing other than the Mirex ones, but they're a little out of my price range and I'm basically just looking to adapt my Mamiya lenses to my Canon EOS, but thought the Shift would come in handy from time to time.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Also, if you've got one for sale, let me know and I'll take it off your hands .

I saw that exact site but missed the Mamiya - EOS adapter.

Now I just gotta figure out how to order one.

Thank you for helping me out. Really appreciate it.

It's all good...Finally found an Arax shift adapter slightly used on the 'bay for just under $100 which is a good bit less than the Arax pricing on their site.

I emailed them and Hartblei about ordering one and they didn't get back to me. Thinking maybe they're unavailable at this time or something. Oh well...

Anyways. Thanks for the PMs and links. Helped out a lot knowing what brands and keywords to input on the ol' search engine.

Just to update, Hartblei and Arax are no longer making this adapter. At all. Ever. So, if you've got one, you better hang on to it. Or let it go for a premium because they're going to be rare here very, very soon.

Same shift adapter as Arax was selling, for $89:

http://kievcamera.net/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=55&products_id=178

-but be forwarned: I just got one from Arax, and am returning it for a refund. They are not put together right, and the shift mechanism doesn't move at 90 and 180 degrees to the camera. That makes it quite difficult to use on a tripod, and completely worthless for shift-panos.

I suspect this is why Arax has decided to stop selling them.

---------------

The good stuff comes from Zoerk and Mirex, but then you're paying serious $SS for the addition of tilt. (worth having if you do macro, or even product shots) The Zoerk is $600 !

Fotodiox pro sells good stuff, but they don't offer shift adapters.

I just got a russian adapter from dvdtechnik.com
-no focus on infinity (1/2mm? to long?)
-reflection!!!! really bad! On 5 of my 6 Mamiya lenses (how is that on the mirex?)
-shift knob to long for eos 5d so does not rotate fully (hits prism)
no answer from Mr Davidenko yet...

There must be something better than this

aaronboumans,

I tried my adapter with three Mamiyas. Two of them did not reach infinity, but one did. This implies that the problem is with the lenses. I have read that many 645 lenses are prone to falling out of adjustment when bumped. (no idea if this is true, though) - so maybe yours needs an adjustment to the helical gear.

Reflection? Do you mean glare? That's interesting. I tried an 80/2.8's one a "C" and one an "N." The N was fine, but the C was painfully prone to flare & glare. Just awful. While te N should be better due to improved coatings, the C shouldn't be as bad as it was. Is it possible that a bad adpter could be make the problem worse?

Knob hitting the prism? If it's the same adapter as mine (they probably all come from the same factory) then you need to click the lens to another position. In the stock position, the knob is indeed in a funny spot. The lens rotates around, but it takes a decent force, it's not immediately obvious.

no, 4 of them are new in box (55,80macro 120macro 150/2.8) and the other two are in mint condition
And all have the same deviation...
So the adapter is to long.

The recflection is huge on all but one lens (35/3.5) and I think that is because the back-lens is much smaller so no reflections can occur on the 'black-high-gloss finish' on the mamiya side of the adapter.
And all my Mamiya lenses are "N" versions

The knob stays in place when rotation it. When rotating the complete adapter this knob cannot pass the prism, so no shoots horizontal and shifting down.

You mean this adapter, yes?

http://dvdtechnik.com/?p=res&pn=2&p_t=view&id=60&mid=400&cur=usd

That's exactly the same one I bought from Arax for $119 and the one referenced above for $89.

Garbage.

I've been borrowing a friends adapter until mine comes in and noticed some flaring at the extreme shift setting. And yes, the knob gets in the way of a full rotation which doesn't bother me much because I rarely would want to shift down on the horizontal position anyways.

Also, the adapter I'm using rotates so easily that focusing my 80/1.9 is causing it to rotate. My focus is a little stiff but jeeze!

Thinking now that I may just pawn off my adapter and save my pennies for the Canon TSE lineup. Maybe the 24 and the 90 or something.

Not an option for me; to many very good Mamiya lenses.
If (and I expect none) no solution comes from dvdtechnik than I wil modify my adapter myself; I have experience and workshop (precision mill&lathe)
And reflection; I have some protostar lighttrap material.

Aaron,

if you tackle this, please let me know. Maybe I could pay you to modify mine?

I was going to return it, but there is no real alternative except the Mirex, and I don't need tilt.
Also, I can just imagine returning it, and never actually getting my money back.

Mine is fine except I want the shift to move "straight" up (90 degrees) when the camera is level.
I'm thinking the only way is to remove the two little screws, and spin the outer section 180 degrees before re-drilling / tapping new threads.

Do you think that's something you could accomplish?
------------

quote: "I have some protostar lighttrap material" What's your idea here? Put some on the internal surfaces?

Same as I saw with mine. So, is this intrinsic to shift lenses, or is this likely due to a poor design of this adapter?
The black paint is kind of shiny, but still ....

I'm wondering if maybe it's just poorly made and at the extreme settings there is light leaking in from the edges or something. I'm glad I didn't get one from Arax or Hartblei. It would have been well over $100 and probably just as poorly made. I'm guessing mine will end up here or on eBay as soon as I get it unless it is substantially better quality.

Doesn't look like it to me.

THe adjustment screw is silver, and very close to the path of view, so maybe that's causing some reflection? It will be easy enough to cover this with some black cloth or tape, and then test.

-But I used the term "glare" instead of flare, because I see a generalized lightening & severe loss of contrast. I don't think it's coming from one small, localized reflection.

Again, can anyone say whether or not this is "normal" with any shift-lens?
