So far pretty much every firmware update has been to fix 'issues'. I'd rather a system that didn't need that kind of input. What's more I'd love a system without problems that I can bleeding well buy in the UK. According to RP in 30 days they should have a clearer timeline as to when the EU versions of the Px system will be availible. In other words check back this time 2010. Hits head against wall...

I can't help but feel feature creep has made them miss their original mark.

$70 RP JRx ≠ basic economical flash trigger. I'm sure it'll be a dandy product and the adjustability options it offers look nice, but I'd have rather seen a 100% solid version of the Yongnuo triggers that have people excited on the Strobist boards. Choices are good though.

Where is that door to my left?

It is in my book.

Then buy the Yongnuo triggers and be happy.

I prefer dependable and versatile.

The thing is I believe some time ago when they announced they were making these there was word of more like $25. I'm not positive, but that's what I seem to recall.

Exactly, they were supposed to be a $25 bare bones item. The original announcement:

That link is an old Strobist announcement.

That was not the be all and end all of information ever published on Radiopoppers Jrx system. They themselves posted a long explanation detailing the original concept and how that concept changed. I noticed you did not link to that.

And like a lot of companies, they missed their announced release date too. But that was then and now is now. Not only am I glad they waited, but I am more than happy to see the additional features in a price that is less than half the competition (and I do not consider Chinese knock off crap "competition").

So, everyone is welcome to bitch and moan about not getting 25 buck triggers... I look forward to what they ARE releasing.

This video shows radio popper syncing alien bees a 1/8000 f2.8... I'm wondering if the soon to be cyber commander can do such?

I also like how the radio popper can control the AB/WL series, but noted that the newest PCB Max stuff seems to have dumped the phone cord connection (as shown in the mock-ups )... so its kinda a catch 22 for future releases of the bees and RPopper guess.

We like to get more than 2WS out of our lights.

Tom, I know I personally read it on RP blog and not on Strobist site. I kept up with their announcements until the original RP came out. I then decided to move on because I wanted something simpler (ie RP mention of a straight forward non-TTL unit that kept getting delayed). I'm not one to get twisted about delays because that's just life, but I still kept my eye on their blog for the fact of very low priced units they (not Strobist) mentioned.

How many "effective watts" at 1/8000th, 2.8 though?

I'm pretty excited by this announcement. These do everything I'd buy a Pocket Wizard for and more -- and I can get a transmitter/receiver set for much less than a single Wizard would cost me. If these work, I'm in for several.

Thanks for the link, answered a bunch of questions. Namely, the knobs have a lock (and you can disable a group entirely which I LIKE), 100 yard range, etc. Agree about the battery thing, AAA's would have made more sense?

Easy for you to say, you can buy them!

Shooting weddings with wireless ETTL is an exercise in fustration, did it fire, did it not fire, every time I change from left to right I have to reorientate the sensor while turning the flash head back into the brolly, etc, etc. There's a wedding photographer in the UK whose trialing the US Px's at the moment, said he'd give me an answer on Teusday. I'm holding my breath in huge anticipation with my credit card tingling. Won't help me for the 4 weddings I have over the next fortnight unfortunately.

There's always Skyports. If you want remote power control though you'll have to spring for a Ranger or Ranger Quadra though....

I did my homework since no one wanted to answer this simple question.

PW vs RP

PW can do remote ETTL without on camera flash, RP don't
PW can do Hyper Sync, RP don't
PW can do High Sync Speed without on camera flash, RP don't

RP can controll AB/WL flashes, PW don't
RP have a much better range with many speedlites
RP are cheaper

I was talking about the skyports mentioned in the previous post, sigh..

Oh and hypersync with a 5D will give you the difference between 1/200 and 1/250, yippee. You can of course use the RP's with an ST-E2 rather than a flash.

$250 for each RP unit (PX that is)

$225 for PW TT5
$200 for PW TT1

PW zone controller is supposed to provide something a lil extra when/if it arrives shortly. **I think** you're supposed to be able to control remote lights with the controller.

I completely agree with you on the ETTL frustrations. I gave up on it a long time ago, but I still like to control remote lights manually.
