I'm from Argentina. I would like to ask you about a litte trouble I have with the combo 5D and a recently purchased Leitz Summicron R 90/2 .
Using the 5D in Av, the camera overexpose 1/2 stop for every stop over f/4 (cumulative).
Using a hand light meter and the camera in M all pictures are OK in all stops.
The camera with Canon lenses, obviously, is OK too.
Have you experienced a similar problem?
Any idea?

Thanks you very much in advance, and sorry for my english

Hi José

The problem you describe is common.

I have used alt lenses with Pentax, Olympus and Canon DSLR cameras. The problem exists with all these cameras and to a varying degree.

Basically the reason for this is the metering method with the light being measured from the focusing screen. This is combined with the info, or lack of info, transmitted to the camera from the lens. Some lenses will give a more correct result than other ones. It seem to have to do with the angle of the light hitting the mirror and then the focusing screen.

What you have to do is to adopt. I know, it is not fun but eventually you'll know what value you have to set the EV comp to.

There are some cameras working very well with alt lenses including the correct metered values. For example; The 5DMkII is better than the original 5D. The 5D is way better than the Olympus and Pentax (ist-Ds and K10D). The Panasonic G1 is the best - not a surprise as it meters from the sensor.

regards, /Jonas

You might also consider adding an AF confirmation chip to your adapter. I have this lens with such a chip on the adapter and I have no trouble with metering at all.

Sorry Steve, I forgot to say that I have the adapter with confirmation chip.

Thanks.
