Magnifying eye pieces help a little, I have DK-17M installed on 5D.
I also attached a DK-17M to a aftermarket viewfinder adapter on my 5D MKII and the result is mixed. The image in the viewfinder is magnified a bit so it helps with focusing but I found that I can't see the complete image until I peep at the corners so I found it hard to compose.
I only used it briefly because the viewfinder adapter had a loose fit and fell off with the DK-17M in my first outing so I lost it. I am not sure I will make another one because of the issue with composition.
Jim,
If you look at other previous threads on this subject, you would see that Focus Confirm chips are only good at getting within a range of the correct focus, but are not accurate enough for shallow DOF focusing like you are talking about. Focus confirm chips have the main benefit of giving lens information to the camera for exif and for better exposure metering and now with the latest versions the ability to support the micro lens adjust functionality of the latest canon cameras.

I only have 5D so I cannot say for 5DII. They don't have identical VFs. On my 5D the DK-17M has no problem showing the entire frame, corner to corner, even the shooting parameters at the bottom.
But it's true if you don't have it secured to the eyepiece it will fall off easily, in fact I've lost it twice, terrible waste of money.
EE-S + DK-17M is what I find working for me, all my lenses have AF confirm but more often than not I find them not reliable for the thin DOF of f1.2, so sometimes out of annoyance I turn off the AF square illumination completely. (C.Fn 10 to OFF)
Ya, me too. I coined it during that post, as I thought to myself "no, it isn't two separate actions, it is more of a simultaneous compose-and-focus".
So, there you have it; compocus: the simultaneous composition and focusing of a photograph, paying particular attention to where the focus lands according to the rule of thirds or any other compositional rules you may be following. As the focus changes, composition is often dynamically changed to maintain good proportion, and vice versa. In this way, one can "massage the compocus".
