The first couple have no paint, but the third makes up for it.

Nice series. These would be from the John Day Painted Hills? I'll be in the area this summer and may have to go there.

I like the composition of the first and last - the lines are elegant and neither is an obvious shot. You could probably crop out a tad of the OOF foreground, but otherwise it's beautiful, esp. with the bold colors. With the second shot, I might have gotten down a little lower to shoot up at the tree, placing more of the sky in the background.

Just my $.02.

Another nice group, Zeph. #3 is the one that works best for me. Love the colors, curves, and texture on it.

Cheers,
Ed

Very nice photos.

Not sure I like the B+W conversion on the first?

Like the third a lot but don't like the distracing element on the middle left (the foot path). Don't know if you mind it being there, but I always "check the edges."

Like the third to as is.

Nice job.

Hey Steve, you are correct about the place, about 6 miles off Hwy 26, the turn off is a few miles west of Mitchell. There is no camping in the Monument, but if you pay attention about a mile after the turn off from 26 just past the second cattle guard there is a small road that leads down to an unofficial camp site along a nice little creek. There is also plenty of BLM land north of the Monument. I would recommend sunrise or sunset, during the summer day light things would more difficult.
Your right 'bout getting down lower, that seems to always help!

Thanks for the repeat lesson on checking the edges Mark...
"must check edges"

First one for me, different and interesting interpretation, I like the lightness throughout.

Nice set Zeph - now you have sold me on the drive east. Shots 1 and 3 are the ones that grab my attention here - I like the details, contrasts and comps in both.

The first is my favourite. A wonderful study of lines and texture.

I also like the 1st, but a bit darker for more darker tones.

I don't know about the others, but I'm pretty sure #2 is HDR....while I like it, I don't like the area around the branches. It sort of has that "bursting out of clear wrap" look because of the slight halo. 1 and 3 are excellent, though.

My favorite is also the first, and I'm with Phil on the darker tone suggestion, but it is one fine image. I like the soft tonal quality of the second -- not the typical contrast for a b/w, but it has a nice effect. #3 is also very nice, just the little nit of that left edge.

Fine work Zeph.

Really good stuff, Zeph. I also favor the 1st.....the soft light and tones work well, as does the different planes of patterns and terrain. Very abstact-y and very cool!
