Bogen Imaging, in the US, is the dealer supplying the Quadra domestically. In metro Washington, DC my Bogen rep replied the Quadra is to be released mid June....Take on a few weeks and I might see one late July. We're shooting a widlfire story in the mid west and want to use these for our off camera light source. We'll see.
Very interesting detail for some of us doing more video work these days.........
"Although it's not at first obvious, as there's no tungsten bulb, Elinchrom also managed to incorporate a modeling light using an LED chip. This continuous light source is daylight balanced (unlike a tungsten bulb) and surprisingly bright. It generates little heat and opens up the possibility of using its cast of light for movie clips with the latest cameras from Canon, Nikon and Panasonic.........................
.....Elinchrom has, fortunately, also developed an adapter so that all Elinchrom light-shapers, like the Rotalux softboxes and reflectors, can be used."
Do I see a full bank LED head with Elinchrom modifier mount in the future?
I might be getting a little ahead of myself here, but you can bet I'll be checking into whether this unit will drive a couple 1X1 LitePanels in the meantime.

Hmm did video dude uses something to cover microphone? It's not so good to hear some background can't concentrate on that good info he's giving
Damn, just when I thought I was about done with packs and heads, this guy comes along. I'm intrigued by the LED light. I just wish the 5D II allowed for more robust control over the video settings. I'd be all over both of these if that were the case.
However, this may be right up my alley with my mini light setups. a D40 is a nice CCD camera, and I've been shooting it at 1/4000th easily with speedlites.
A Quadra, mini lightstand, medium softbox, D40, 17-55, and 70-200, could all pretty much fit in and on a backpack, and easily match ambient in full sun.
Now if only I could fit an Octa in that backpack.......

I'm starting to regret starting this thread... I've gone from curious to seriously interested
I regret reading this thread! Oh and I totally glazed over the built in Skyport. Geez. What more could they stuff into this little pack? Does it make perfectly scrambled eggs? Toast? Perhaps it also serves as a french press.
Oh I know the Octa isn't heavy. But I really meant what I said.. I want to fit it IN a backpack. Ministands are about a foot and a half when down. The right modifier would fit in there as well, along with a basic kit.
I guess I could put it all in a roller, but then that's a whole different size level. I wanna see what would be possible to take on a plane without checking in anything.

Max, the Octa ain't all that heavy, it's the C-stand and sand bag that'll kill ya.
Oh boy yes, last time I bought a C-stand I carried it all the way home from the store, about 2 miles. I got as far as the subway and thought "well what the hey I've made it this far"... Not doing that again in a hurry.
Also to the poster above who mentioned 1/4000 - you will probably need to check with Elinchrom whether it'll sync that fast - if I recall the skyports are only specified to go to 1/250, and some of their lights are specified similarly although I have not asked them if this is still the case operating corded. I shoot a lot of medium format so I always have to careful about this issue.
Of course you will also be clipping exposure (even on the action head) so make sure your meter takes this into account, or adjust by chimping.
jm, you're right. 1/4000th is reserved for the speedlites.
Skyports sync at 1/250th, really? That kinda sucks. Multimax units can do 1/1000th, so I can go with that.. or stick with cable connect. But that's only in heavy sunlight. Any other time, 400ws should do just fine.
I usually do tests to figure out my latitude as far as power output at higher sync speeds.
