I remember reading on this board of someone who was adapting Rokkors to EF and had many copies in "stock". Do you remember who it was?

thanks

Jim Buchanan has adapting kits. No physical adapting required as long as you don't shoot FF.

I do shoot FF, but from what I've read you don't get this lens for focusing to infinity...

Would you use this lens at infinity?

No, I wouldn't. But lots of people here look for it, hence my observation.

gasrocks has several of these I believe, though most are stock I think. Definitely go to Buchanan for adapter kits.

I bought mine already converted from JimBuchanan, awesome condition.

I believe he sells DIY kits for it where all you do is undo the screws pretty much.

So it is you who bought that beauty, congratulation
I kept thinking someone would bite the bullet despite the price . I bought a cheaper one, so that I won't feel guilt when I file the rear retaining ring. Mine has just arrived and is still sunbathing in UV to cure the yellow cast, while waiting for Jim's conversion kit to arrive.

BTW, wouldn't a matching hood be perfect for your new baby :

Thanks for the tip .... I bought it!

BTW, I paid only $228 for my copy with a serial number of 2001110, plus Jim's fees for the conversion.

How do I get in touch with Jim Buchanan for a DIY kit?

Dammit! I was searching ebay today looking for one of these! I managed to find a mint one for my Rokkor 85/1.7, but not for my 58/1.2...

You can PM Jim here.

Jim does top notch work, well worth every penny.

There is a 58/1.4 lens going cheap in ebay, a bit dusty, but comes with a Minolta D57KG hood and a third party 55mm screw-in metal hood. Seems like a good deal for USD$50, and you can sell the lens if you don't like it .

And of course, you can always cut short a 85/1.7 hood to your desire

Thanks for the tip, I will check it out. I already have a 58/1.4 I was thinking about selling though...

I have finished the conversion with Jim's kit:
https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/748982/0#7058340

With some filing the retaining ring, I have achieved infinity focusing on a full frame 1Ds Mk2.

However, after 3 days of UV-bathing, the yellow tint is still present at the rear half of the lens (the front half is crystal clear with just one and a half day of UV exposure). So just after a few test shoots, it is returned to its UV-bathing box for more exposure time.

Dear Bobby,

Please beware of the seller (I know it's too late ). Today I received the D57KG hood (I prefer its smaller size) from the same seller. What I got was nearly identical to the picture in the auction ads, save for two screws that held the compression ring in place!

Fortunately, I have found that the original Minolta mount of the 58/1.2 has 4 four short screws that can be used as substitute (the other four screws are long and hold the mount to the lens). Incidentally, the screws are of the prefect length! Now the hood looks completely like the original .

I sincerely hope you wouldn't run into the same problems as mine.
