I'm looking forward to the D5000.

There is far more to it than simply a swivel screen that I will find useful. I would call it a D90 light.

I like the small form factor, it will replace my D60 as the super light hike body.

Sounds like you have the perfect reasoning for it then!

My set just hit the front page of Engadget, woo =)

congrats with the new toy... if I had to replace my D40x, I would definitely think of that small but wonderful camera and the swivel display is a very interesting addition...

So is this like a D40/60 where you have to have lenses with their own motors in them?

Yes, it does not have an in-camera focus motor.

Looking at the ISO 1000 shots with no NR it looks as good if not better than my D90!

I assume you just set the AF to Auto AF and hope the camera gets it right? If you use single point and the tilt screen, isn't focusing a PITA to get it right?

That's how I'm using this camera currently. On my D300 I use single point and the rear button to focus and the shutter button to only do shutter release, often doing focus and recompose. I tried avoiding the manual to see how to do that on this camera as an experiment but so far have been unsuccessful because AE-L and AF-L are a single button here. I may have to give in and read the manual on this subject =) So I can't say if the articulating display makes single point focus tougher now or not.

Put up a video of the camera shooting an Osprey and chick. I could only get the ‘82 Manual Focus Vivitar 400mm lens on the RRS head with this camera so it through off the metering. Will have to figure something else out.

Vimeo version is here:

The vimeo version looks very washed out to me. So… Original file is here:

Edit: Duh, I meant nesting mate not Chick, sigh....

IMO that swivel screen would have been much more useful if it was designed like the one found in Oly E-3...heck it would be more useful if it just tilts up-and-down.

It's a shame the screen isn't the high res version of the D90/D300/D700/D3/x etc.

There is a new set of church bells installed on the base where I work, they can be heard for miles. I do believe you are right, he flew off exactly when the bells started, not sure if that is a coincidence or not!
