Has anyone tried this on a Canon EF FF body? I have two questions.

a. Does it have mirror issues with its fin
b. How does it compare to the Zuiko/Zeiss 18mm lenses which are more popular here
c. How well does this handle linear distortion.

Here is a link to the lens

Link to Mir site for Nikkor 18mm f3.5

thanks

Nice shot.

Most reports I have seen say it's not very suitable for landscapes. They have found found it to have a too much distortion, and CA in the corners.

Peter, that shot is fantastic.

I have always loved this lens, and feel that if you can get one for less than or around $450 it is a great value.

Thanks. Yes it is a pretty good shot.

Does this have any mirror issues on a Canon body - both EOS 1 series as well as 5D(2)?

I've used this on a 5D, 1Ds, 1DsMKII and 1DsMKIII with no interference issues at all. The tab on the back has not been as issue. It is possible that there are versions where you might have to file the tab.

I've also had the Nikkor 20mm 2.8 MF, and I literally could not see a difference between the two. The Zeiss 21mm Distagon is better, but it's better than almost anything and has that wonderful moustache distortion.

That shot was in such a small room that it required an 18mm lens. There was almost no place to put C-stands, and from I can remember, I did multiple exposures for different parts of the room - with a light stand or head in the frame for one side and then combined with another frame without the stand. There was also one exposure for the room that had lights reflected in the window and a second with the room lighting down just for the room beyond the window.

This made a beautiful magazine cover and a great 24 x 36 inch print for the Atlantis Recording.

Roslett says that here is a lot of vignetting on wide open.
Peter, how does perform your lens?

Hello

Some images from this lens

I think that it is avery good lens and has no problms with Canon adaptors.
It does focus beyond infinity with my 5D. It has a bit if vignetting as well as Chromatic Aberation, both easily corrected in ACR or DPP. DPP also has a go at correcting barrel distortion which is of the 'moustache' variety. I use it with a Canon grid screen and tend to use it at F5.6 or 8 and set a hyperfocal distance as focussing critically is difficult like all manual focus wide angle lenses in marginal light.
AF confirm is not really very effective.

PS Minimal sharpening Vignetting and Aberation correction in ACR and no geometric correction

Based on this test the Nikkor has better resolution and contrast then the Zuiko 18mm and the Tamron SP 17mm adaptall
